Welcome to Holidays UK, a magazine showcasing some of this country's most beautiful and
interesting destinations. I have always enjoyed showing off my homeland to visitors, and have never
had a problem in finding its wow factor, though sometimes its easy to forget just how special this
country is!
My big brother, who left this country many years ago, still pops back for a visit, and despite
having lived in Africa and now New Zealand, both of which have fabulous landscapes and wildlife, he
still misses the green hills of England, its historic architecture and its rich culture. Now he is planning
to come back for a longer stay next summer and tour the country. While putting together this holiday
guide I have already come up with a cracking itinerary for him, one which draws on some of the
fabulous places to visit and stay that we have covered in this magazine. I have to say that I was
spoilt for choice with the range of glorious landscapes just waiting to be explored, from fells and
dales to rugged mountains and bosky valleys, and historic buildings ranging from early Medieval and
Tudor to elegant Georgian and dramatic Gothic. And as for things to do, I could keep him
entertained 24/7 with a range of pursuits from walking to kite surfing and trekking to biking, all of
which will work up an appetite which can be easily satiated by the wealth of award-winning local
food and drink each county is proud to offer.
So, when you come to explore your holiday options for 2010, look closer to home � you'll be
surprised to see how much this sceptred isle has to offer. Just add sunshine and you have the
perfect staycation.
