CELEBR
A
TING OUR 35
TH
YEAR
IN
BUSINESS
1974 - 2009
Heritage Square opened the doors in 1974, with the foresight of
continuum of care. A non-profit health care facility where you can
walk in totally independent and move into different levels of care
under one roof. November 8th marks our 35th anniversary. The
Heritage Square mission was and still is to provide quality care in
a warm and loving environment for our residents.
Heritage Square is a handsome building on a well groomed
campus on the north side of town. The facility offers affordable
housing options to seniors requiring all level of care needs:
Independent, sheltered, intermediate/skilled, hospice, and respite
care. Our staff strives to focus on wellness-centered care and a
staff who asks the resident "what can we do to make you well and
independent again".
What Makes Us Special
The wonderful residents who live here and the staff repoire with
residents, three of them centurions. Many are ordinary people who
have lived extraordinary lives; a soldier who stormed Omaha
Beach, a prisoner of war, several have memories of going to
school and celebrating with the 40th president of the United States,
a Big Band Era musician who played 3rd chair in the orchestra at
the world's fair in Chicago, and don't forget our avid Cubs
fan who lived to be 113. Residents share memories of
teaching, nursing, working at the "Mill", childhood on the
family farm, or experiences of being a coal miners' daugh-
ter. Many residents continue familiar activities such as
bridge/table games, going shopping, watching sports on
TV, having potluck with the family here once a month.
Some residents still volunteer in the community, while
others take retirement literally. Heritage Square can never
replace a person's home, but we strive to make it the next
best thing.
New Feature
We added respite care for those who may need to stay
for just a week or the whole winter. We are busy in our
courtyard building a butterfly garden walkway. Next
week we will have our service wall completed; the serv-
ice wall honors the employees who have worked here 10
years or more. We proudly can say we have 18 employ-
ee handprints that will be hung on the wall. Longevity of
employees is in itself a true testimonial of dedication and
the love felt by many for Heritage Square.
