ardiff-based television
production company
Boomerang makes the Top 300
for the first time this year.
Its inclusion comes after the
television group doubled revenues in its
maiden full-year results on the London
Stock Exchange.
And the company said it is focused on
continuing to drive impressive organic and
acquisition-fuelled growth.
Boomerang, which floated on London's
Alternative Investment Market last year,
reported revenues up 100% to 20.93m for
the year to end of May 2008.
Pre-tax profits, excluding one-off costs,
jumped 144% to 2.1m while pre-tax profits,
including one-off costs, grew by 91% to
1.3m.
While the acquisitions of Mwnci (editing
services company) and Apollo (children's,
drama and documentary-maker for S4C)
boosted revenues, around two-thirds of
Boomerang's revenue growth was organic.
About two-thirds of its turnover is derived
from Welsh broadcasters (mainly S4C), but it
is focused on driving revenues further afield.
Its chief executive Huw Eurig Davies said
the company was well capitalised to
continue exploring acquisition targets
against a backdrop of continuing
consolidation in the independent television
production sector.
Boomerang said it was also well placed to
further exploit Ofcom's quotas on
broadcasters having to commission
programmes outside London. Boomerang,
which has a diverse programming portfolio,
said in the year it had won 'significant
recommissions' from Channel 4 and S4C
particularly in drama, extreme sports
(Channel 4's Freesports) and lifestyle.
Last October it won a 4m contract over
four years with S4C for continuity links with
the channel's children's output Planed Plant.
Mr Davies said: "We are delighted to
announce our maiden results to the market.
During the year the company has
experienced strong growth and has been
successful in securing recommissions for a
significant number of its key programmes.
"Boomerang will continue to develop and
grow the group organically and look for
acquisitions which add value and
diversification to its offering."
Boomerang, which employs 120, said its
branded content and lifestyle divisions have
also won significant new and returning
commissions.
The division, which includes its market-
leading Extreme Sports production, has
won a tendered commission for the Sony
Erikson Bboy Championships, an
international break-dancing competition,
together with a commission for 10
programmes with Channel 4 following UK
hopefuls on the road to the 2012 Olympics.
Fflic, a subsidiary of Boomerang, has seen
its long-established and Welsh lifestyle
strands re-commissioned for 2009.
Cwpwrdd Dillad, a programme that looks at
an individual's life through their wardrobe,
has been re-commissioned for a fifth series.
Mr Davies said: "We are delighted our
branded content division is showing
significant growth and that Fflic continues
to develop its strong lifestyle strands.
"These commissions demonstrate the
group's proven track record and ability to
produce high-quality programming to both
major broadcasters and brand sponsors." xz
