ST NICHOLAS Church, which nestles in a quiet
corner of Dersingham down the hill from the
Sandringham Royal Estate, is not only a fine
place for Christian worship, but is also establish-
ing itself as the perfect location for exhibitions
and concerts.
Local schools, clubs and organisations are
involved in the various festivals throughout the
year.
The annual flower festival, which takes place
this year from July 16-19, has been taking place
in the church for more than 30 years, and wel-
comes a growing number of visitors each year,
many travelling considerable distances to enjoy
the spectacular floral displays. This year there
will be more than 60 wonderful flower displays.
Concerts scheduled for this summer include
the Lyra Ensemble (May 2), singer Karen Stuart
(May 15), and pianist/organist Mathew Bason
(June 19).
Open Gardens are on Sunday and Monday,
May 24-25.
At the Arts and Crafts Festival (September 24-
26) there will be paintings by local artists in the
church, and craft stalls in the church hall with
refreshments.
The Christmas Tree Festival runs from
December 4-6.
STARTED in 1972, Dersingham
Pottery is picturesquely housed
in a carrstone and brick stable
block which retains many original
features, providing an interesting
display space.
The pottery shop, originally a
cart-shed, is full of domestic
pots.
Large lamp bases, mugs, jugs,
bowls and vases in shiny and
matt glazes including bright
blues, greens, purples, white,
black and reds; also textured fin-
ishes with a more natural and
neutral look.
All pots are handmade in the
workshop by June Mullarkey and
are mostly thrown on the wheel
using stoneware and porcelain
clays.
Alongside the pots are colour-
ful paintings in acrylic on canvas
by Ben Mullarkey, black and
white and colour photographs
and cards by Siobhan Williams.
The gallery in the former stables
displays more individual and larg-
er pieces from the trio.
As with many other properties
in Dersingham, the buildings
were originally part of the Royal
Estate and can be found just one
mile from Sandringham in the
centre of the village on the
B1440.

Interesting display
Bircham Windmill is not only a local landmark on the West Norfolk skyline, but it is also a starting point for walking and cycling in the
area, as well as having much about milling to interest the visitor.
