Level 3 Fashion Awards and Certificate � Production Tailoring
The Level 3 Fashion Awards and Certificate are run over one
year. This qualification offers greater depth and breadth of
skill to support entry to HE programmes in specialist areas of
study in fashion related areas or directly to employment.
The aim of the course is to enable students to engage with
current industry practice and has been developed in
association with the sector skills agency for the garment and
textiles industry.Industrial placements will be integrated into
the course. The course is also an excellent extension for
students studying product design textiles.
Knowledge and understanding of industrial practice in
garment construction will be gained. The course is focused
particularly on production tailoring. Students will explore the
creative possibilities of tailored clothing. Students will
develop the ability to draft their own original patterns, and
will be able to construct to a very high degree of accuracy.
Practical tasks will involve a wide range of experimentation
techniques for tailoring and will be supported by knowledge
of materials and components, production methods of
manufacture and garment technology.
Progress is regularly monitored through formal and informal
tutorials. This programme will prepare students for relevant
HE courses or for direct employment in this industry sector
and is particularly aimed at students who wish to pursue a
career in the fashion related industries.
This one year course is suitable for students from years 11,
12 and 13. No previous experience is required, other than a
strong interest in the subject.
Assessment
The course is made up of 3 units. The units are assessed internally and externally. Assessment is continuous; there is no
formal written examination.
In order to gain a Certificate, students complete three 60 hour Units. Each Unit is a separate Award.

Unit 1: Producing Tailored Components
Unit 2: Pattern Cutting and Construction Techniques: Tailored Skirts and Trousers
Unit 3: Construction Techniques: Production Tailored Jackets
