WITH house prices rising and the
Government-backed assisted purchase
scheme HomeBuy Direct soon to end,
time is running out for those needing help
to get on to the property ladder, says
Keepmoat Homes.
Although the support scheme has been
extended, HomeBuy Direct purchasers
need to have completed their deal by the
end of September. And with the applica-
tion, approval and legal processes taking
around 16 weeks, the window to find a
home will soon be closing.
HomeBuy Direct provides buyers with
an equity loan of up to 30% funded
equally by the developer and the Homes
and Communities Agency towards the
cost of a new property.
The initiative has proved particularly
popular for Keepmoat Homes, which
specialises in properties for first and
second time buyers. The company has
been able to help people to get a home of
their own for as little as 69,000.
Vanessa Burling, sales director with
Keepmoat Homes Yorkshire and
Midlands, said: "After a slow start,
HomeBuy Direct has been great for the
housing industry, tackling issues includ-
ing affordability and mortgage availabil-
ity. We have achieved about 10% of our
recent sales through the scheme.
"We currently have a number of buyers
going through the application process, so
anyone thinking about the option is
advised to make enquiries soon in order
to make sure they can complete within
the time limit."
To qualify for HomeBuy Direct assis-
tance, households must be earning less
than 60,000 and have been unable to
buy a property on the open market.
Although predominantly targeted at
first-time buyers the scheme can also
help people who have previously owned
properties but are now unable to buy
without assistance, for example in the
case of relationship breakdowns or fami-
lies who are overcrowded.
Seven Keepmoat Homes developments
acrossYorkshire and the Midlands offer the
scheme, including Cypress Road, Kendray
and The Pastures, Darfield, both Barnsley;
and Horizon, Darnall and Ameranthus,
both Sheffield. For more information visit

Time running out for help
on to the property ladder THE newest residents at Barratt Yorkshire
West's Bretton Park development in Monk
Bretton say their three bedroom home is the
perfect place to settle down with their young
son.
Matthew Tickner, a driving instructor, and
wife Beth, a beauty therapist, had been
living in Wakefield with their son Oliver and
chose Bretton Park after deciding to move to
a bigger home closer to friends and family.
The family chose a three bedroom
Maidstone terrace for its use of space and
innovative layout, which they say provides
them with all the space they need. They
took advantage of Barratt's Home
Exchange scheme to complete the move
quickly.
Barratt says Home Exchange offers a
wealth of incentives to make buying a new
home more efficient, cost-effective and
enjoyable. Options include Part Exchange,
through which Barratt will buy the existing
home for cash, and Movemaker, which sees
Barratt help sell the current property for a
guaranteed price.
Bretton Park consists of 58 houses and 25
apartments and, says Barratt, is ideal for
first-time buyers and growing families
seeking a close-knit community feel.
There is a range of three and four bed-
room homes with prices from 134,995 to
189,995.
Wendy Houlden, sales advisor for
Bretton Park, said: "We are really happy that
Matthew, Beth and Oliver have found their
dream home. They are a wonderful family
and we wish them all the best for the
future."
For more information on Bretton Park call
the sales team on 01226 785369, open
Thursday to Monday from 10.30am-5.30pm
