Davidson,observes men and women shopping
on a daily basis. She agrees there is a definite
division between the sexes when it comes to
the psychology behind shopping.
8220Men and women approach fashion so
differently,8221 she says. 8220A lot of women buy
for next season. They8217ll buy a coat in July for
winter. They8217re forward-thinking about fash-
ion and style because it8217s about how their
clothes make them feel. Men seem to just
think, 8216it8217s cold, I need a heavier coat8217.8221
So if you can8217t shop with them but don8217t
want to without them, how can you do avoid
touchy silences and tender egos? Sarah says
relaxation is the key: 8220We get a lot of couples
shopping here and to stop arguments we try
to make the men as comfortable as possible.
There are papers for them to read and we
watch their cars so they don8217t get a ticket. We
just try to stop anyone from getting stressed.8221
When it comes the shopping it8217s a case of
practical versus personal. He8217s not going to
trawl round looking for the perfect pair of
jeans, whereas she may dedicate her life to
that very goal. He will buy the same type of
underpants his whole life but she has to find
lingerie that suits her personality.
