RETAINING their rural
image is not easy for the
villages of North and
South Wootton, given
that they are so close to
Lynn and have both had
to cope with massive
increases in the number
of houses built over the
past 25 years.
The boundaries may have been
blurred by the march of the
builders, but they are still there.
For while the differences
between the villages -- which
have a combined population of
more than 6,500 may not be
apparent to the outsider, there is
still a strong core identity, with
each village having its own vil-
lage green, parish council and vil-
lage hall.
Wootton Park, the large area of
public space between the two vil-
lages, is jointly administered by
the two parish councils, providing
both a popular general amenity as
well as home for The Woottons
football club, which has both
adult and junior teams.
West Norfolk Rugby Club has
three pitches and a squash court
at North Wootton, while Lynn
Golf Club has one of the best
courses in the area at nearby Cas-
tle Rising.
Scouting and Guiding is very
popular in the Woottons, with the
Scout and Guide headquarters
close to All Saints' Church at
North Wootton.
The church in the Woottons is a
thriving part of the community,
both at at All Saints Church at
North Wootton and St Mary's
Church, South Wootton.
A cycle path from Lynn to San-
dringham runs right through the
Woottons, and Wootton Woods is
still a popular area with walkers.
With convenient local shopping
complexes at St Augustine's Way
and next to the Rainbow super-
store, plus popular public houses,
the Woottons certainly have
plenty going for them.

West Norfolk, village
life is thriving,
despite the pres-
sures of our modern
world.
While the advance of the
supermarkets may have
made life tough for stores in
the smaller villages, there
are plenty of lively places
that have actually seen an
increase in local services.
For many local communi-
ties have seen a big growth
in housing in the last thirty
years, with their services
expanding accordingly.
And many specialist busi-
nesses the kind of people
the public is prepared to
travel to in order to buy their
wares find a rural location
highly convenient, especially
as far as parking is con-
cerned.
This 12-page special pub-
lication will help you dis-
cover just how much life
there is out in the beautiful
countryside.
