What does a
recession look like?
The dire threat of recession looms large in the
media, but there are certain signs that we
should expect to see if the current slowdown
turns into a recession. We haven't seen most of
them yet there is some way to go before the
current slowdown qualifies as a recession.
Rip-off Britain
New research on price comparisons between
the US and the UK provides some evidence
for the `rip-off Britain' charge, albeit less than
headline figures suggests.
Executive pay
Executive pay remains an emotive issue,
but the `fat cat' label is very misleading for
most directors who are modestly rewarded.
Pay should be linked to performance, but
placing a ceiling on it is impractical and
doesn't make economic sense.
