MASTER Glassmaker Paul Miller estab-
lished Langham Glass in 1979 and his
aim is to make modern glass by hand
to the highest standard of craftsman-
ship.
You can experience a fascinating
demonstration of glassmaking with
informative live commentary. Watch as
molten crystal is transformed, using
age-old, traditional methods, into the
antiques of the future. Paul has made
many special commissions, including
limited editions such as bottles for
Havana Club brandy and more recently
some very special glass awards for the
Quatar Royal Family.
With a wide range of family-friendly
activities all on one, easily accessible
level, Langham Glass is an increasingly
popular local attraction at its home at
Sculthorpe Boulevard, Tattersett
Business Park.
Located near to Fakenham, and with-
in easy reach of Hunstanton and King's
Lynn, means that more and more peo-
ple just passing by are dropping in to
see the ancient art of glassmaking and
to take part in activities.
For adults who feel creative, you can
make your own glass masterpiece with
one to one tuition alongside the experi-
enced glassmakers (Over 16s only).
Booking advisable.
Children can have their hands cast in
glass as a memento of the day -- or
why not keep as a gift for that someone
special?
Langham Glass also has glass tum-
blers and coasters that the children can
paint and take away. Gift vouchers are
also available for all these experiences,
so why not treat someone to a special
surprise.
The games room is full of toys and
games from the past -- old-fash-
ioned toys such as bagatelle, che-
quers, wooden puzzles, and marble
runs which children, parents and
even grandparents all love.
Glassmaking takes place from
Monday to Sunday throughout the sum-
mer holidays from 10am-1pm and then
1.30pm-4.30pm.
While the birds and animals are a
major part of the output, the variety of
exquisite glassware is practically limit-
less, with a lot of tableware and glass-
es. All the glass birds and animals are
created from scratch by Paul and his
highly skilled team and every piece is
stamped Langham England signed, car-
ries the British flag and Langham Glass
logo, reflecting the huge demand by
many people for British goods.
The factory shop has a terrific range
of both 1st quality glass together with
great value factory seconds.
`Casualties' from the range, such as
pigs with three legs or birds with no
beak, are very popular, and almost have
a cult status with customers looking for
something unusual.
The gift shop area has many items
with a Norfolk connection, including
Norfolk Lavender, Walsingham jams and
chutneys, Sandringham apple juice.
Norfolk honey and Handmade
Jewellery.
During your visit you can take a
break in the tearoom over a light lunch,
or homemade cakes with a coffee or
tea. There is ample parking on site and
coaches and school parties are always
welcome. (Booking advisable)
COMPTON HALL, South Creake,
on the Fakenham to Burnham
Market Road, is an arable and
stock farm which has, since
2000, been growing the Amaizing
Maize Maze and welcoming visi-
tors from all around the world.
The maze, set in the beautiful
North Norfolk countryside, cov-
ers seven-and-a-half acres, is
planted in early May, and grows
up to eight feet tall by August.
In hot weather, the maze will
grow by over an inch a day and
you can hear it growing while you
are getting lost!
It is a uniquely-designed maze,
thought out by the `Maze Master,'
who you should find on the way
round.
It is made to thrill and excite
children of all ages up to grand-
parents, with plenty of exercise in
the fresh air thrown in for good
measure. Look out for clues on
your way round, and you could
win a prize if you get them all
correct.
There's panning for gold, crazy
golf and trampolines to play on
when you have succeeded in get-
ting around the maze.
Food, ice creams and hot and
cold drinks are available on site,
or you can bring your own picnic
to have in the large picnic area.
Sorry, no dogs allowed except
guide dogs. There are some
shaded areas under the trees to
leave them, or limited space in
the large kennel.
The maze is open eight days a
week from 10am to 6pm with last
entry at 5pm.
The Jelly Festival is on
Saturday, August 1, with 11 hours
of music for all ages, stalls, chil-
dren's entertainment, bar and
camping on the night, prices and
information at
