"We wouldn't exist without reading,
of course, but we wouldn't exist with-
out doing something else, too," Judy
said.
These days, one of those something
elses is the jewelry-making business
the Grand Detour couple started with
their daughter, Elizabeth Woese, 5
years ago.
Elizabeth had taken a jewelry-mak-
ing class near her home in Minnesota,
then asked her parents for some start-
up cash so she could make and sell
jewelry while staying at home with her
two children. The Willards asked her
to show them what she was doing, and
were impressed with what they saw.
"When she brought her first pieces
to us, we were blown away," Judy said.
"They were just so beautiful."
A family friend just happened to be
at the Willards' during Elizabeth's visit,
and loved one of the pieces so much
she bought it on the spot.
