contributor to the national effort at improving the skills of the workforce as well as provid-
ing new and exciting alternative progression routes into third level education. InnovationGTI has always prided itself on its innovation and ability to provide cutting edge courses

merce and industry, giving the student 8216hands on8217 experience in a realistic working envi-
ronment. Earlier this year GTI launched yet another initiative in its drive to provide its
learners with the most up-to-date courses, equipment and technology with the develop-
ment of the 8216GTI Creative8217 Media Centre. This new Apple Media Centre enables GTI to ful-
fil its vision of providing design, recording, editing and production facilities for enthusiasts
of film, video, animation, games and music technology.
The centre houses what is standard broadcast software for T.V., Film, Radio and Music
Production. FacilitiesThe Institute makes widespread use of internet resources and other advanced learning
technologies. Students have full access to the Internet and all its applications including
video conferencing, net meetings and e-mail. A well- equipped cyber caf233 is provided for
student use. A Print Management System ensures that students have access to advanced
print facilities from any networked computer in the college. The Institute has a state-of-
the-art electronics and technological skills laboratory, recording studios, business and IT
suites. A recent addition to the institute is a new custom designed Hairdressing Salon and
Complementary Health Therapy Suite equipped with a modern treatment centre. Advantages of FEFor many students the leap from a cushioned second level educational experience into the
vastness of third level can be quite a daunting one. If this is an issue, then the FE sector
can hold the key. An FE course can be the ideal way to experience a different learning envi-
ronment from that of the second level school but with the support benefit of small class
sizes and teachers who can more easily monitor progress and provide the necessary sup-
port services to enable a positive learning experience to take place. The FE experience
itself can be the difference between a student faltering in the early stages of a third level
course or moving with skills & confidence into the third level arena.
There are no fees for Further Education courses, although a registration fee normally
applies. If you are eligible you can apply to your local VEC for a maintenance grant.
The FE sector caters for a very wide market, from recent leaving certificate graduates to
the mature learner returning to education. 8216No one will teach you better8217In a world of rapid change life-long learning is no longer a luxury option. According to GTI
Principal, Jim Brick, 8216GTI is committed to developing in our students learning skills to last
a lifetime. While other skills may fall victim to technological or economic changes, learn-
ing is the only skill that is truly future-proof. All our courses are designed to be of practi-
cal use in the workplace or as a stepping-stone to further study and higher qualifications.
The way we teach in GTI is as important as what we teach. Everything you learn will be
valuable to you throughout your life. We will teach you to become a lifelong learner and
there is no more valuable skill in these changing times.8217The School of Music at Galway Technical InstituteThe School of Music at GTI is the largest and longest established music educator in Galway
city . In 1985, City of Galway VEC established the Music Education Scheme, providing

standing and enjoyment of music in all its forms and encourages participation and excel-
lence in performance.
