BEELER'S TAKE ON OBAMA AND FALSE HOPE
NATE BEELER: One of the aspects that made Barack Obama so attractive as a presidential candidate was his advocacy
of governing from the center. He consistently pledged to work with Democrats and Republicans as equal partners to help
solve America's problems. His calls for bipartisanship and understanding were a breath of fresh air after eight years of
George W. Bush, who turned out to be a "divider," not a "uniter." My fear is that Obama is walking the same path as Bush.
His speech before Congress tried to appeal to a broad spectrum of people, but his actions belie that rhetoric. Obama gave
many hope for a change from the same old, same old. Maybe it was too much to hope for.
