For The Examiner
Please join me and Peggy Fox on
the National Mall this Saturday at
10 a.m. for Walk Now for Autism
Speaks. The walk will begin and
end at 7th Street NW and Madi-
son Street NW. The walk is a
comfortable 2.5 mile walk. I would
recommend, however, that you and
your family arrive around 8:30 a.m.
You can register between 8:30 and
9:30 a.m. We suggest you register on
line by going to momslikeme.com.
There will be food, live music and
activities for all. Please, no pets.
I imagine most of you know some-
one who has autism. One in every
160 births produces an autistic child.
One in 150 births of males produces
an autistic boy. There are many dif-
ferent levels of autism. Some kids
are high functioning, while others
are confined to a world of their own.
Many with autism are very bright
and usually have one particular sub-
ject or talent in which they excel.
I am confident that researchers
will find a cause, if not a cure. So
come out and help us find that one
missing piece to the puzzle.
Right now it looks like Saturday
will be mild, with temperatures
in the low- to mid-60s during the
walk, and they high will be near 70
degrees.
