The world renowned Pebble Beach Resort in
California is maintaining its golf courses with
mowers manufactured by Ransomes Jacobsen.
The resort has extended its relationship
with Jacobsen, Ransomes Jacobsen's sister
company in the USA and has reappointed the
Charlotte-based turf equipment manufacturer
as their official supplier to the golf course
complex for the next five years.
David Withers, Managing Director of Ransomes
Jacobsen said,
"Golf course mowers under the Jacobsen
brand name are manufactured both here
at Ipswich and in Charlotte in the USA. Our
contribution to this extended agreement is the
supply of our G-Plex III ride-on greens mower
which we export, not only to the USA, but
around the globe. We are naturally delighted
to be part of this prestigious contract."
Pebble Beach Resorts are obviously pleased
with the equipment supplied by the two
companies as testified by the comments
from R. J. Harper, Senior Vice President of
Golf Properties for Pebble Beach Resorts.
"Jacobsen provides the finest equipment
in the industry to take the very best care
of the turf on each of our golf courses,"
he said. "We've enjoyed a decade-long
relationship with Jacobsen as our official turf
maintenance equipment supplier and, as a
result of this agreement we will continue
to have the best equipment available on
the courses of golf's most prestigious
tournaments."

The Ransomes HR 3300T out-front rotary
mower has won the Turf Professional Best
New Turfcare Product Award. Specifically
designed by Ransomes Jacobsen for the
UK and European municipal and contractor
markets, the HR 3300T was launched at
SALTEX in September 2007, the UK's biggest
outdoor turf care event.
Turf Professional is a trade magazine and
voting for the award was via their website; the
HR 3300T was a clear winner. The engraved
crystal award was presented to Managing
Director David Withers by Chris Biddle,
Managing Editor of Nelson Publishing, the
media owner of Turf Professional.
"Absolutely thrilled and delighted," said David
Withers, upon receiving the award. "The R&D
programme behind the launch of the HR 3300T
has been unprecedented with Voice of the
Customer (VOC) research driving all stages of
the design process.
"Better mowing efficiency, more evenly
dispersed grass clippings, the ability to cut
a wide variety of grass, low maintenance,
operator storage, reduced noise and vibration
and better operator ergonomics were all
areas identified by the VOC research. The
design and product development team
here at Ransomes Jacobsen have produced
a first class mower which has exceeded
expectations in all of these areas.
"This award is voted for by people from
within the industry, who know what makes a
good mower and that makes this even more
special."

Golf Club boasts one of the finest golf courses
in the north east of England. They have
recently taken delivery of a fleet of eight E-Z-
GO TXT golf cars, powered not by petrol, but
by LP Gas.
Managing Secretary at the Club is Hamish
Sutherland, who firmly believes that LPG is
the way forward when it comes to buggy
operations and improving the bottom line.
"Our previous golf cars were petrol, in fact we
still have a few on the fleet, but these will
be phased out over time. I hadn't considered
going down the LPG route until David Common
of our local dealer, Rickerby, proposed the idea
and suggested that I speak with the people at
Beamish Park, who were using LPG golf cars.
"This convinced me the idea had some merit,
so we explored the options with increased
interest. The difference in fuel costs is hugely
significant and there are the health and
safety issues associated with the storage
and transport of petrol. These were the main
influences on our decision in favour of LPG.
"We have seen the fuel cost for a round
plummet and we're transporting and storing
significantly less petrol. We've had to educate
members in the use of the cars; it's slightly
different from the petrol versions, but apart
from that there are no other issues. We fuel
up on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays
during the main season and make sure we
rotate their use. Rickerby's have been very
helpful during this changeover process and
I'm sure that it won't be long before we have
migrated to an all-LPG fleet."

Rickerby Ltd, the E-Z-GO distributor for the
northeast of England, has achieved significant
sales successes with the new RXV golf car,
launched at BTME in January 2008. E-Z-GO is a
Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) company.
Ramside Hall Hotel and Golf, situated just
two miles from the centre of Durham has
purchased five electric RXVs for use on their
three 9-hole courses - the Princes, Bishops
and Cathedral, - which make up the 27-hole
complex. Each course has its own individual
features, but all blend well with each other,
and allow different `Courses of the Day' to be
played.
Robin Smith, Director of Golf says,
"We run a mixed fleet here, but we always put
the RXVs out first because we know that we
can get a least two and even three rounds
from a single charge. Once they have gone out
we use our other buggies, knowing that if the
demand warrants it we can send out the RXVs
for a second or third time. They really are cost-
effective to operate.
"The fail-safe braking system is excellent and
the onboard chargers are simple and easy to
use, especially as we have an underground
storage facility. I particularly like the club
covers; they are a very neat feature.
"My final comment relates to the Rickerby
team; the sales and service support has been
absolutely first class. We have been treated
like valued customers throughout all of our
dealings. Long may it continue."
Brancepeth Castle Golf Cub near Durham
features an 18-hole parkland course designed
by Harry Colt and opened in 1924, the same
year as Wentworth, another famous Colt
course. The original plan was for residential
properties to be built beside the fairways.
Previously owned along with the castle by
Lord Boyne, the estate passed to the Duke
of Westminster, from whom the members
purchased the course and clubhouse in 1961
for 13,500.
"Although most of the course is relatively flat,
there are some steep but short banks and the
traction from these new cars is excellent; the
braking system is second to none and they
are particularly good for our older members,
as they can still enjoy their game and will
continue to support the club," said Arthur
Chadwick, the club's Hon Secretary.
"We have the buggies on a three-year contract
hire deal and the terms were very good,
tailored to our budget requirements. These
are excellent vehicles and we've even had
favourable comments from the golfers, which
is unheard of!"
