Lori goes back to Normandale's web site, checks out the "Future Students" page, and
then clicks on the "Finance Your Education" button. There, she finds information on
several loans and even a few grants that look promising. She and Todd mull over their
options. If the financial aid comes through for them, they can also use some savings
that they've built up over the years. "After all," Todd says, "that's why we've saved
money--to use it to get ahead. This is an investment in our future."
Step #4: Applying to Normandale
With that settled, Lori's next stop is the "Admissions" section of Normandale's web
site (www.normandale.edu/admissions). It's a one-stop resource that provides
everything she needs to know about getting into the college--key deadlines,
requirements, detailed FAQS, application instructions, and much more. She fills
out the college's easy-to-use online application form and gets an immediate
confirmation that her application has been received. Five business days later, she
receives a letter that details her admission status, as well as Advising and
Registration information.
Step #5: Filing for Financial Aid
Next comes the all-important step of applying for financial aid. As Lori discovers,
the process of applying for aid is essentially the same for first-time college students
as it is for nontraditional adult students like herself.
She first applies online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, lists the Normandale school code of
007954, and electronically submits her completed Federal Application For Student
Aid (FAFSA). The application is automatically sent to Normandale, and her aid
application is processed as rapidly as possible. Within a few weeks, she learns that
she's qualified for several low-interest loans.
Things are falling into place for Lori. She'll start part-time at Normandale next fall
and is already planning out her course schedule. She's a little nervous about going
back to school, but she's also excited. She knows it will be a lot of work, but Todd
and the kids are supportive of the venture. Best of all, she'll have a new career
within a few short years.

Do the MathWith college costs on a seemingly endless rise,
Normandale offers a true alternative: a tremendous educational value and an
investment that will pay dividends for a lifetime.
By any measure, a college education is a valuable investment in your future. Research by the U.S. Census Bureau reveals that people with
associate's degrees will earn about $1.6 million during their career. People with bachelor's degrees do even better, earning approximately
$2.1 million over their working lifetime--nearly $1 million more than someone with only a high school diploma.
The trouble is that college costs have been on a rapid climb in recent decades. In fact, prices that once seemed unthinkable--$35,000
or more per year at some private four-year colleges--are putting college educations beyond the means of many people.
Is there an alternative? Yes, and it's right in your backyard. Normandale offers a first-rate educational experience in an accessible,
supportive environment. Best of all, it's also affordable.
