E
DDI Reader
takes centre
stage at the
East Wintergarden,
playing to a sold out
crowd in Canary
Wharf next week.
The folk singer is best
known for her 1988 hit
Perfect with band
Fairground Attraction and
has been a main player in
the British folk scene for
the past 20 years.
She will be joined on
February 17 by singer-
songwriter Boo Hewerdine
who is known for his mix
of folk, pop and Nashville.
The pair wrote Safe as
Houses together after the
London bombings in 2005.
Her last album, The
Songs of Robert Burns,
was a bit hit after the
Scottish National
Orchestra asked her to get
involved with a festival it
was putting on to honour
the poet.
Love is The Way is
Eddi's new album on
Rough Trade Records,
which sees her move away
from the more traditional
folk songs heard on her
past two albums.
The more modern offer-
ing aims to communicate
her feelings of intimacy
and honesty with music.
She said: "I love the way
when you're listening to a
Willie Nelson record, for
example, you just feel like
you're in the room with
the performer and musi-
cians you feel like you're
in company."
"I have a passionate love
of instinctive, beautiful
songs as well as a slightly
insane attachment to
romantic chord structures.
Words that speak of some
universal humanist truth
that can be `thrown away'
with no regrets."
As well as touring, Eddi
also made an appearance
in the 2009 film Me and
Orson Welles, collaborat-
ing with Jools Holland and
his orchestra.

IT'S NOT much fun being single on Valentine's
but here is a great reason to be happy you are not
one of those smug couples grinning like Cheshire
cats over a candle in an overpriced restaurant.
Fabric's sister club Matter plays host to Dutch DJ
Sidney Samson whose hit Riverside is currently a
massive hit on UK dance floors.
Kinky Malinki hosts its album launch party and
Valentine special on Saturday sure to be a glam-
orous night for anti-Valentine singles.
Joining Samson for the night of hedonistic house
music, funk and groove will be Baggi Begovic,
Juan Kidd and Ibiza favourite Wally Lopez, as well
as other names to get you shaking.
