T
he Sheppey Cluster Prisons are undergoing modernisation and development in the
Healthcare Department. There are two closed prisons HMP Elmley and HMP Swaleside and
one open prison, HMP Standford Hill.
In the two closed sites we are introducing Telemedicine and digital imaging. Each wing will
have an independent clinical area for GP and nurse-led clinics. HMP Standford Hill has a
new walk-in centre, which is open from Monday to Friday. All sites provide a dental, optical,
pharmaceutical and physiotherapy service. A comprehensive and separate Substance Misuse Service is offered to those clients
in need. Mental Health Services have undergone a comprehensive review and we anticipate a significant uplift in services by
December with the final service in place by March 2010.
We require Band 5 Registered General Nurses and Health Care Assistants at Band 3 and 4 to enable
us to progress our plans. Our existing pharmacy technicians are hoping to employ another part-time
Band 5 Pharmacy Technician and two Pharmacy Assistants.
To assist our team we will need two porters for HMP Elmley which is the busiest prison serving the
local community for remanded and convicted offenders.
Prison nursing has made significant progress in the past few years but to help us make the final steps towards a gold standard
service we require qualified, professional staff.
Applications can be made on the HMPS or NHS website. Both sites have a Sheppey Cluster Healthcare Department DVD which
shows part of what we do and can be sent to interested parties.
We offer Agenda for Change employment conditions. All sites have gym facilities and a swimming pool in HMP Standford Hill.
Free and secure parking is available. All new staff undergo Security Clearance. Following this a comprehensive induction package
is undertaken with support from the team to ensure newcomers feel welcome and supported.
