YORKSHIRE TODAY
WEDDING GUIDE 21VENUES & CATERINGalthough there are now different tools to help you
make the right decisions. Choosing a venue is a
fundamental part of the wedding plans but once
this is booked and out of the way, certain other
factors such as the transport, photography and
the catering will become much easier to make a
decision on.
The catering at the wedding can take up a
substantial amount of your time 8211 and of course,
your budget. It8217s not surprising as this is likely to
be substantially more important than any event
you may have previously organised. In
comparison, if you have difficulty in arranging a
small social gathering at your house, planning a
wedding is certainly going to be a shock to the
system.
If you8217re holding the reception in a hotel then
it8217s likely that catering will be part of the package,
whereas selecting a separate caterer will be a very
important part of preparations too. Either way, it8217s
vital they are able to understand what you want
to achieve in terms of ambience, flavours and
presentation. Don8217t forget that it will often be the
only substantial meal of the entire day for your
guests, so make sure that you are certain of your
choice in order to avoid grumbling stomachs later
on in the day.
This can mean that the traditional formal
three-course meal could, if you wanted to, be
abandoned completely. Although the sit-down
meal with the best man8217s speech is the highlight
of many weddings, and is quite traditional, while
a buffet for your evening guests will ensure that
everyone is happy.
Another option is to go for canap233s, yet these
shouldn8217t be treated as a substitute for a meal and
guests should either have eaten or have the
opportunity to eat later. Remember to alert your
guests as to what the catering arrangements are so
that they can make alternative arrangements for
food, and don8217t arrive hungry.
The formal seated meal still seems to be the
popular choice, though, in terms of control of
timing and smooth service, and can be designed
to whatever you want it to be. If you are thinking
of a theme or simply a fabulous colour scheme,
the menu, linen, plates and food presentation and
garnishes can be designed to suit. There are many
options depending on the level of formality you22
