O matter what
type of house you
have, there's a
conservatory out
there to suit your style.
FromVictorian villas to modern
newbuilds, it's easy to add an extra
room on to your property if you
follow a few simple rules.
First things first, it's wise to know if
your property will suit a modern or
traditional shape.
Contemporary designs tend to
have a minimalist feel usually
being square or rectangular in shape
with lots of clean lines but not a lot
of detail.
Traditional styles tend to be a bit
more elaborate.Victorian designs
can have faceted fronts, detailed
exteriors and pitched roofs while
Georgian and Edwardian ones are
also very detailed but tend to be
more symmetrical in shape.
Once you have an idea of the style,
it's time to consider the building
material. Modern conservatories
often use uPVC or aluminum
frames, which tend to be cheaper
and easier to maintain.Timber
frames are more likely to be used in
traditional conservatories but need a
lot of upkeep to keep the wood
looking good.
These days, however, it's possible
to choose uPVC styles which have a
wood effect and so you can keep the
style without having to sacrifice on
efficiency.
If you match your modern home
with a contemporary style or a
Victorian build with a traditional
design, you're on to a winner. But
there's no reason why you can't have
a new home with a traditional
looking conservatory or vice-versa.
Symmetrical designs such as
Georgian conservatories can look
good on newbuild properties as they
mimic the layout of most modern
homes.
Similarly, older properties can be
enhanced by using a simple lean-to
style that won't compete with the
decorative structure of the house.
It's important to make sure the
conservatory will be in proportion to
the original size of your home. If you
have any doubts, a chat with a
builder, local firm or an architect will
help you make your final choice.
As long as you consider the size,
shape and style of what you already
have, there's no reason why you can't
add extra space and value on to your
home.
