How are you dealing with fame at the moment?
I haven't really become that fazed by it, but my
schedule is very crazy and I don't get to go out with
my friends as much as I used to. Though whenever I
have a day off I always go and see them and try and
do what normal kids do.
Does it bother you that the paps follow you
everywhere you go?
Sometimes it can be exciting and other times it's
just annoying especially as it's every day. They
wait outside my house sometimes, so you have to
prepared, I was caught out recently as I left the
house in my pyjamas!
What advice would you give to talented stu-
dents looking to get into the world of pop?
They've got to be really passionate about music,
and definitely not want to do anything else. They
should go to as many auditions and open mic
nights as possible. Just grab any opportunity to
get their music heard. If you're good enough, you
get known through word of mouth.
Do you think you'll ever go back into education?
No! The school that I went to was a performance art
school, so even if I hadn't had success in music, I still
would have been within education in a less academic
way. If I had to go back to university then I'd go back
and study something creative.
Your trademark hot pants are rivalling to Kylie,
who else's look do you admire?
I really like the fashion in the `Factory Girl' film,
which is based on Sixties icon, Edie Sedgwick. I
also like how Sienna Miller dresses too. I think Lady
Gaga is really cool, but she's also really crazy. She's
got her own thing going on, which must be fun.
Who inspires you and who is your lifelong idol?
I grew up listening to all the big singers, like Mariah
Carey, Whitney Houston, Stevie Wonder, all the
proper singers! I also listened to lots of motown
and soul. I think if I met Mariah then I'd be a bit
star struck as she's huge!
On your blog you have a lot of fan posts stating
how much your music has changed their lives �
is this a bit overwhelming for you?
I think it's amazing when they say I've inspired
them to do certain things. I can't really believe that
it has that effect on people, but it's really great to
hear those things.
Lily Allen is always papped hitting the clubs
with fellow party girl Kate Moss... Have you
made any famous celebrity pals yet?
Everyone I've met so far I've got on with really well,
like the Saturdays, Dizzee Rascal, McFly, all those
bands we do tours with. I got on well with them all.
Dizzee Rascal is so nice, he's lovely, I heard he had
an argument with Kate Moss at the GQ Awards but
from what I gather he's a nice person.
We're doing a feature on ways to get into gigs
or clubs on the cheap and or free... Do you have
any tales of getting in to places or failing to?
I always used to go to clubs before I was actually
old enough to get in, and I used to use my sister's
ID! It got taken off me about three times... my
sister wasn't too happy about that. We used to
get someone to speak to the bouncer and we'd
charm our way in! Other times we'd sneak round
the back! The club we use to go to, Sugar Hut in
Brentwood, had a back entrance and we could
jump over the fence to get in! Actually, it recently
burnt into flames and press reports said I had
been due to have a secret party there and that
I was going to perform. This was all completely
made up. There's another Sugar Hut in Fulham
though, so I might have to check that out now!
