Dear Parents
Christmas Newsletter December 2009
Welcome to the second edition of our electronic newsletter that allows us to show parents and our other readers a taste of
what has been going on in the school in the last half term. The success of the Oratorio in November at the Rose Theatre and
West Side Story in the School Hall illustrates the continuing high levels of performance in Music, Drama, Dance and the
performing arts amongst all the boys in the school. I have been delighted to watch the commitment and excellent standards
reached in the sporting achievements of the boys during the Autumn term. From the rugby fields at Grists, the cross country
runners in Richmond Park racing for the Judge Cup against some of the best young runners in the country, to the badminton
and basketball courts in the sports centre, Tiffin boys are performing to a very high standard. Many play at regional and
national level in their chosen sports whilst others have just been keen to represent the school.
The Boat Club is enjoying a surge in popularity this term after a very successful summer. Their successes were marked at
the inaugural dinner on Friday, 4 December with over 100 boys attending and 12 girls from Tiffin Girls' School who are now
regularly rowing with our school. The awards, presented by Richard Bolton, a GB high performance coach, celebrated the
success of the crews at the Kingston Head in the previous week and the year's achievements from Henley to racing abroad.
Public Speaking video
This newsletter includes two video segments from Tiffin Broadcast
Network showing the finals of the Public Speaking contest held in
November and an extract from a performance given by a group of
students at Bedelsford School. Please click on the icons to view the

Behind the headlines, there are many boys and staff taking part in activities from chess to literary quizzes to maths
competitions to working with local businesses for enterprise, engineering and careers opportunities. These are the wider
opportunities that the school is able to offer with the dedication of the staff and with the funds that parents provide to allow us
to put on such a range of opportunities and activities. The richness of this provision does depend on the parental support
that we receive and for which we are very grateful. I am hugely impressed by the financial support that parents give to the
school and I would like to thank you all for what you do. Please do not think that I take your support for granted; each pound
you give us is valuable in ensuring that we can keep this quality and depth of provision going. If you have not yet contributed
to the Tiffin Education Fund may I encourage you to do so if it is within your means.
I am keen to make sure that we make the most of our resources and I am working with the governors to develop the next
phase of development for the school buildings as Kingston has just heard that it is to receive funding in 2010 and 2011 under
the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme to rebuild and refurbish its secondary schools in the next decade. We
must be ready to seize whatever opportunities come our way to improve the school environment and buildings. Stuart
Lester, Chairman of Governors, is writing to all parents to update you on our progress in line with the financial recovery plan
and our continued prudent financial management.
