THE JOURNAL 19
"On your wedding day, subtly applied
make-up is essential and will bring out the
star in you," reassures Jacqui Ripley, author
of the book How To Be A Beautiful Bride.
She advises paying particular attention to
your base: "Applying a primer before
foundation will help the foundation to stay
put.
"You don't want a heavy-looking base,
so choose a foundation that covers
blemishes while allowing skin to breathe.
"Face shine is your number one enemy
in pictures, so give yourself a fine dusting
with ultra-light powder before you smile for
the camera."
Apply a flush of colour on the cheeks for
a pretty and youthful look and, when it
comes to colour on eyes and lips, Jacqui
suggests keeping it neutral.
"Resist the temptation to go for brightly
coloured hues," she says. "If you want to
use something more exciting than taupe, like
sparkly gold powder, apply it with a
dampened brush for a more shimmery feel."
Kissing, eating and sipping champagne
will test your lipstick to the max. Shades
close to your own lip colour are
low-maintenance, compared to dramatic reds
which look striking but will need frequent
re-application.
Jacqui advises against lipgloss if you're
wearing a veil: "It will make your veil stick
to your lips. Use a slick of petroleum jelly
instead."
And don't forget to choose a mascara
and eyeliner that can withstand tears of
happiness!
