HUNTER HALL
SCHOOL & NUTKINS NURSERY
Austin Friars St Monica's School is an
independent day school for girls and boys
in the centre of Carlisle.
The school provides a seamless
education from 3-18, so whether you are
looking for a nursery education or moving
on to junior or senior school we offer the
ideal environment.
We provide a traditional education
where children are encouraged to take
part in the all-round life of the school, with
a broad programme of extra-curricular
activities. High academic standards and
strong pastoral care are at the heart of
what we do. Our A level and GCSE results
have again been outstanding this year.
The school is set in 25 acres of grounds.
Our new, state-of-the-art junior school
provides an excellent start for a child's
education. In the senior school, we have
new music and science facilities, a
dedicated sixth form ecntre and excellent
ICT facilities. The nursery is in a separate
self-contained building surrounded by
mature gardens and provides pre-school
education for 3-4 year-olds.
Please phone the admissions office on
01228 550719 to make a visit.

Originally founded in the village of Great
Salkeld, the school outgrew its original
home `Hunter Hall' and in 1991 moved to
the present site. Hunter Hall has grown
from the initial vision of its founders to the
happy, vibrant, oversubscribed school that
it is today. Our job is to ensure every child
who is part of the Hunter Hall School
family feels valued and consequently is
proud of the work they achieve.
We provide a nurturing environment that
encourages and extends learning to allow
every individual to recognize their full
potential. It is important that our pupils
feel happy and secure so they can
confidently develop their self-esteem.
Teaching students how to understand and
organize their own thinking, using a
variety of cognitive tools, is a key element
of our work.
Why is Hunter Hall so popular? There
are, we believe, three simple reasons. The
first is a friendly and industrious
atmosphere, commented on by all who
visit us and reflected in the exuberance,
confidence and happiness of our children.
Secondly, a rigorous academic tradition,

Lime House
Sedbergh Junior School's popular new
headmistress is no stranger to the school.
Following a distinguished career at Millfield
and Kelly College, Sara Hirst arrived in
Sedbergh in 1995, as English, History and
Games mistress, mother of three, and wife
of senior school headmaster, Christopher.
In 2001, as senior mistress, she
spearheaded Sedbergh's highly successful
co-education drive (senior and junior
level). SJS will now benefit from Sara's
phenomenal energy and vision. Already,
she has overseen the outfitting of a new
boarding house, classrooms and
playground, and woven SJS into the fabric
of the senior school so it can take
advantage of its excellent teachers, sports
coaches and facilities. Pupils will
particularly benefit from the new extra-
curricula options such as horse-riding and
dance, and exposure to exceptional role
models in Sedbergh's senior pupils.
Sara said: "Our small classes enable us
to provide close individual attention to
help every child flourish. We'll set
outstanding academic standards and enjoy
a vibrant programme of opportunities in
music, drama, sports, outdoor pursuits and
more."

At the start of the new
academic year, St. Bees
School launched two new
initiatives the opening of
a junior department
offering day places for
boys and girls aged
between 8 and 11, and the
establishment of a golf
academy based around the
school's own links golf
course.
The first intake of 8-11
year olds has their own
specialist Key Stage 2
teacher who co-ordinates a
broad subject based
education with some input
from departments of the
Senior School presently
including ICT, Latin, Music,
St Bees
Science and P.E. The school's aims are to
provide a stimulating learning environment
in small classes and to put back into
learning the fun which the school believes
the Government's obsession with national
testing has largely removed from many
primary classes.
St. Bees which is celebrating the
425th year of its founding has also
appointed its first director of golf, Stuart
Hemmings, a PGA golf professional, to run
the new golf academy. The academy offers
personal one-to-one programmes of
coaching as well as instruction for small
groups utilising a newly equipped golf
studio which houses the latest computer
software for analysing driving and putting
techniques and the school's own links golf
course in St. Bees.
which sees our pupils enter

self-reliant and well

above all, because being at
Hunter Hall is such great
fun. We warmly invite you
