CHURCH Farm is looking forward to
another exciting season. Bring the
family for a day out and enjoy the
unique relaxed and friendly atmos-
phere.
Enjoy brunch, lunch and tea, shop-
ping for gifts and toys, touching and
looking at the animals, and playing in
the adventure playground. There are
trampolines, activity trails, football,
ride-on tractors, a huge stimulating
sandpit and the climbing adventure,
which will keep even the most active
children busy.
New for the 2009 season is the
Treehouse indoor play area. Relax
with a cup of tea or coffee while the
children play on the roped walkways
above your head. There are towers,
walkways, slides, climbing nets, U-
nets, play shop fronts, a climbing wall
and tunnel, as well as soft play for
younger children, plenty of comfort-
able seating for the adults, and an
additional eating area.
The sheep will be lambing in
the Spring. The pigs will be pro-
ducing piglets throughout the
year and the goats will be run-
ning over the bridge with their
kids. The extensive variety of rare
breeds will fascinate young and old
alike. You will be able to make friends
and cuddle the wide variety of tame
animals and experience pigs, sheep,
cows, goats, chickens, rabbits,
guinea pigs and all their young at
close quarters throughout the season.
Animal encounters will enable you to
get even closer to the animals, touch
them and learn about how they live.
Tour the paddocks in a circular walk,
getting closer to the animals while
enjoying the beauty of Stow
Bardolph, or simply sit back and
enjoy the tractor tour of the surround-
ing area.
Lunches, brunches and children's
pick and mix menus are on offer, as
well as the much-loved homemade
cakes and cream teas. Bring a picnic
to eat in the picnic area, or visit the
award-winning Hare Arms right next
door.
Visit the shop with its wide variety
of gifts, toys, and homemade pre-
serves, stock up on cards and find
presents for everyone, including your-
self. Visits to the shop and tearoom
can be made without going into the
farm.
Join the gamekeeper on a fascinat-
ing guided nature
walk on
Wednesdays and
Sundays at 2pm,
strolling through
the woodland
discovering birds,
animals, insects
and plants. There
are also special
pre-bookable
walks including
the dawn chorus,
deer watching,
bat watching,
nesting boxes,
and primrose and
bluebell walks.
You can visit
the Norman
parish church
and explore the
Hare chapel with
its collection of
family monu-
ments and
unique waxwork
of Sarah Hare,
the only such
effigy outside
Westminster
Abbey. Stow
Hall's beautiful
gardens are also
open every
Wednesday
(10am to 4pm)
from March 11 to
October 28, and
Apple Day will be
held at the gar-
dens on October
4.
Events this
year include
lambing from
mid-March to
mid-May, Heavy
Horse Day on
April 26 (run by
The Heavy Horse Society, combined
tickets for Heavy Horse Day and
Church Farm available), Not Just a
Woolly Weekend on July 11 and 12,
including shearing, farriery and
sheepdog demonstrations, wool and
other country crafts, and the
Hallowe'en Half Term Fortnight from
17 October to 1st November.
The indoor play area, shop and tea-
room will remain open every Thursday
to Sunday in November and
December, and Father Christmas will
be at Church Farm in December (also
on 21st to 23rd December). Visit the
shop for that all important Christmas
shopping, or book the special festive
3 course lunch available during
November and December. The indoor
play area, shop and tea room then
open again on 7th January 2010,
every Thursday to Sunday, until the
Spring daily opening season begins
again on 15th February 2010.
