If the great outdoors is for you, burn off some
calories on a countryside walk around one of the
22 Country Parks in the county or stroll along the
magnificent White Cliffs, rich in flora and fauna.
Then circumnavigate Bewl Water's nature reserve
and reservoir, learn the language of rocks on a
Coastal Rock Doc Walk or visit some of Kent's
magnificent gardens: Mount Ephraim, Marle Place, Goodnestone Park Gardens,
Hole Park and Riverhill House Gardens to name but a few.
Discover more about Kent's heritage in one of the many free town museums.
You may be surprised to hear that entry to Rochester Cathedral is absolutely
free � visit and be uplifted by the stunning architecture. Take a walk along
Canterbury's ancient walls and visit the Norman Castle or for some coastal
heritage visit the haunting 12th century Reculver Towers near Herne Bay.
For the culture vultures check out the talks and exhibitions at Turner
Contemporary Project Space, browse the talents of local artists in one of
the many art galleries you'll find in most towns or meet costumed
characters from the past on St Peter's Village Tour near Broadstairs.
Visit the curious Shell Grotto in Margate, take in the superb views from the
battlements at Minster Abbey Gatehouse Museum on the Isle of Sheppey or
delve 8,000 years deep into Kent's ancient past on an evocative lamplit tour
of Chislehurst Caves.
Many of the county's major events are totally free too! Visit in May for the
Rochester Sweeps Festival; in June for Margate's Big Event; come in August
for Broadstairs Folk Week and September for Canterbury Eurofair.
And if you're still stuck for places to visit tour ripe vineyards and taste a wine
or two at Barnsole, Biddenden or Sandhurst; discover hidden secrets and
quirky tales with a guided walking tour of Canterbury or Tunbridge Wells or
follow the seasonal trails at Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest.
