something held to be in error, Mr
Duff.
That `fact' that "97 per cent of the
world's climate scientists, across
many disciplines, have shown that
climate change is happening and is
our fault" is a misrepresentation to
the point of being a whopping great
lie, perpetreated by those with a
political agenda.
Previous supporters of the man-
made climate-change hypothesis
have changed their minds, largely
because of new research.
Most climate-change orthodoxy
comes from the Intergovernmental
Panel on Climate Change. It is
essentially a political, not scientific,
body.
Its brief was to take man-made
climate change as a given, assess its
likely impact and advise what
should be done about it.
As the 1990s neared their end,
however, although atmospheric CO2
levels still rose steadily, it became
obvious that Earth's temperatures
were no longer following suit.
As for my "me now" ways, a
description I dispute, I will continue.
I am, however, part of a growing,
not dwindling, number who object to
being hoodwinked and then derided.
I am not a scientist neither is
Mr Duff, I'm sure. We both rely on
the published opinions of others.
I have taken an interest in the
subject for a number of years and
reached my personal conclusions
after considerable deliberation.
I reply to Mr Duff with a quote
from Professor Richard Lindzen,
leading world atmospheric physicist:
"Future generations will wonder
in bemused amazement that the
early 21st-century's developed world
went into hysterical panic over a
globally-averaged temperature of a
few tenths of a degree and, on the
basis of gross exaggerations of
highly uncertain computer
projections combined into
implausible chains of inference,
proceeded to contemplate a roll-back
of the industrial age."
It is appropriate that someone just
last week took their climate-change
beliefs to court, claiming protection
on the ground that it was the
equivalent of religious belief.
That is what some `green' activism
has come to a `religious belief'.
How did so many people get led
into acceptance and panic?
Well, it's not the first time: in the
20th century they were misled by
communism, Maoism and fascism.
But do we always have to get
fooled again?

Memorial ceremony
proud day for cadets
IT gives me great pleasure to write
and compliment the general public
for the enormous praise that we
have received at Dover Sea Cadets.
For this was an excellent turn-out
on Sunday, November 8, at the
Dover War Memorial.
All of the uniformed officers and
cadets from youth organisations
were immaculate in dress and drill
on the parade, giving the correct
marks of respect where due.
The four guards at each corner of
the War Memorial did not appear to
move a muscle when standing to
attention, the Cadet Bugler A/C Ben
Webster, who played the Last Post
before and after the two-minute-
silence Reveille brought many
complimentary remarks, with
similar for the Mayor's Cadet
Attendant and the Standard Bearer.
The cadets from the Army Cadet
Force and the Air Cadet Force did
their duties impeccably.
This was a milestone for our band
as this was our first Remembrance
Day performance for many years
and one that I shall remember.
