NCGANoteworthy NCGA Member Advantage
With the release of the new NCGA member card,
the NCGA MEMBER ADVANTAGE kicks into high gear.
The name for the program was chosen from more than
150 member entries suggested on the NCGA website.
The name reflects the intent of the program to provide
affordable golf and a host of benefits to NCGA mem-
bers throughout the region.
Visit the NCGA website for an updated list of
benefits available to members at each facility. Look
for NCGA signage and ask in the pro shop what your
NCGA membership entitles you to.
Bob Hanna
BOB HANNA passed away in March at age 92.
Hanna served as the NCGA's first executive director
from 1955-1979. He was only the
second employee of the Associa-
tion and presided during a period
that saw the NCGA involved with
the construction of Spyglass Hill in
the 1960s and the development of
Poppy Hills in the 1970s leading to
its 1986 debut.
Hanna's zeal for the Association
and its history was instrumental in the expansion of
member clubs from less than 90 to more than 280 in
his 26 years of service.
The era also witnessed growth in staff and mem-
ber services including tournaments, handicapping--
where the NCGA was the first association to utilize a
computerized system--and the superintendent intern
program. Hanna was succeeded by John Zoller.
The NCGA honored the Rochester, NY native and
UC Berkeley alum by renaming the annual NCGA/
NCPGA Cup Matches after him and PGA life mem-
ber Lyle Wehrman. A room in the NCGA office is also
named for Hanna and Zoller.
