Adults in the ceremony can also confirm their
special relationship with your child.
A fully trained, professional Celebrant from
Birmingham City Council will carry out the
ceremony. Any parent or adults with parental
responsibility or legal guardianship can make the
arrangements.
There is no requirement for parents to be married
and the child can be any age. Some families
choose to include older children in the ceremony
after the arrival of a new baby. There is no legal
status but simply something that makes a
personal and public gesture of love and
commitment to the child.
Unlike a birth certificate, which is a legal docu-
ment, the commemorative certificate that is
issued is unlikely to be accepted as proof of
identity. An original birth certificate for the child or
children has to be shown to the ceremony coor-
dinator at the time of booking. The names on the
certificate will be incorporated into the ceremony.
