IF FISHING is a hobby or a pastime
for you, why not come and try
some of the great waters around
the King's Lynn area which belong
to KLAA?
KLAA is the local fishing club. Day tickets,
weekly books, or yearly season tickets can be
purchased from the club's own bailiffs who patrol
the waters daily throughout the summer months.
All local tackle shops also hold plenty of these
tickets or books in stock.
KING'S LYNN SHOPS: Anglers' Corner,
Shipshape Tackle, Specialist Angling Supplies.
HUNSTANTON: Hunstanton Tackle. LITTLE-
PORT: Littleport Angling Centre. EMNETH:
Emneth Angling Centre. SWAFFHAM: Kev's
Tackle. SOHAM: Benwick Sports.
All these shops are friendly outlets that can
provide valuable information on which areas are
fishing well in their regions. Tackle shops can be
more than just a shop, as all the owners of the
shops fish all the local waters.
VAST RANGE
KLAA has a vast range of rivers and still
waters in their armoury, as all types of coarse
angling can be covered. The rivers can be the
harder venues to fish.
SHEPHERD'S PORT FISHERY
Stillwater fishing can be found at Shepherd's
Port Fishery, were there are four different lakes,
all containing some good solid sport. Shepherd's
Lake is a mixed fishery containing bream, carp,
tench, crucian carp, roach and rudd. Queen's
Lake/Stanton's Lake is a large, shallow lake con-
taining some big bream, carp skimmers and
roach. Bear Lake is a small, donut shaped lake
with a very big head of carp ranging from ounces
to 10lb, also a few roach and rudd are present.
Ken Hill Marsh Lake is located just slightly away
from the Shepherd's Port Fishery. This is a mile
stretch of reed-fringed channel beginning just
after the gate. This contains a big number of
tench, rudd, and roach.
TOTTENHILL PITS
Tottenhill Pits is a favoured stillwater amongst
the Lynn anglers. This venue can only be fished
when purchased of a full year's season ticket.
Platforms are located all around the lake and
anglers are permitted to fish from these only. This
lake contain the bigger carp to 20lb, also sup-
HILGAY Fisheries is situated in the heart of the
Fens, with the river Wissey, Ouse and Cut Off
Channel all within a mile.
The Fishery was started over ten years ago by
its owner, Tom Dent, when he opened the 50-
year-old farm shop lake.
The complex has grown into 15 acres of land-
scaped coarse fisheries, surrounded by the natu-
ral undisturbed beauty of the fenland countryside
where you will enjoy the peaceful setting along-
side the company of reed warblers, kingfishers
and other wildlife.
Facilities include easily accessible pegs for the
disabled, ample car parking and toilets and all
very near to the farm shop and garden centre.
You may purchase cold drinks, snacks and a
selection of baits here.
Within the location there are a number of pub-
lic houses and bed and breakfast guest houses
offering a good standard of food and accommo-
dation.
The Farm Shop Lake: 28 pegs. A well-estab-
lished picturesque seven-acre tree-lined lake.
Especially popular with the pleasure anglers and
families who appreciate the secluded setting and
the closeness of the farm shop.
The Kingfisher Pond: 11 pegs.
West Fen lake site: two Island 30 pegs.
Features two Islands, with 15 ft of water in the
deepest part of the lake. Known for its abun-
dance of carp.
West Fen Lake site: Willow Lake 38 pegs.
More of a mixed lake, interesting triangular
shaped water, with a central Island.
SITUATED in a most beautiful
part of the Nar Valley,
Narborough Trout and Coarse
Lakes are part of a working
trout farm lying in natural water
meadows. The farm and fishery
are family-owned and run.
The Trout Farm and the
Fishery are fed by the water of
the river Nar, designated a site
of special scientific interest
because of the water quality.
The five lakes have an abun-
dance of natural food to sus-
tain the fish in first class sport-
ing condition.
New for 2009 is the Nature
Walk, due to be open from
Easter, which gives visitors the
opportunity to discover just
how fascinating this lovely set-
ting is.
The whole site is teeming
with wildlife and is home to
families of swans, geese,
ducks, and other waterfowl, as
well as many species of resi-
dent birds which include wood-
peckers, kingfishers, owls,
kestrels to name just a few.
Narborough Trout and
Coarse Lakes provide the
experienced fisherman with
challenging sport and begin-
ners are most welcome.
Fly casting lessons can be
arranged and fishing tackle can
be hired or we will be happy to
advise you on your purchases
in the tackle shop.
The New Mill View Rooms
are just 75 yards from one of
the lakes and face towards a
Victorian Mill.
The rooms are twin-bedded
with en-suite shower rooms,
small kitchenette and sitting
area.
The B&B is ideally situated
for visiting the North Norfolk
Coast, Sandringham, Holkham
Hall, Pensthorpe Wildlife
Centre, Welney Marshes, to
name just a few, and is just a
few miles from the market
towns of Swaffham and King's
Lynn.
Delicious fresh trout and
smoked products are all avail-
able from the on-site shop.
The BIG FISH Farm Visit and

duced and just why they are so
delicious!

water, so the notice board at the entrance of the
lake is worth a visit.
River fishing is the main source of angling,
with miles of river bank to walk and fish.
GREAT RIVER OUSE
The Great River Ouse is a mature flowing river
with depths from 9-20 feet, west bank fishing
from Denver Sluice to Danby's Drove, east bank
fishing from Denver sluice to Modney Court.
Hotspots include The Piggeries, Wissey Mouth,
Railway Bridge, Brown's Farm, Chapel, Modney
Bridge, Squeks Corner, Owl Box and Danby
Drove. All of these venues can produce some
good hauls of fish. Bream anglers gather along
the banks in the early morning dew, setting up
the tackle in hope of finding a big shoal passing
by. Tench anglers gather in the early morning
sessions or as the evening light starts to fade,
pleasure anglers can be found anytime of the
day watching the boats go by and enjoying a
day's angling, hopefully finishing early enough to
have a drink and snack at the local pubs along
the route.
MIDDLE LEVEL
Middle Level is a vast stretch of water which
holds some very big fish. Predator anglers can
be found from early summer through till the end
of the season in March. Big pike and zander can
be found on most of the match stretches, but
the more popular places along the level for the
specimen anglers include Magdalen High Road,
Neepes and Crooked Chimney. Match anglers
gather on the level between June and
September as this seems to produce the better
matches. Pleasure anglers gather on all the pop-
ular venues of the level, from St Mary's through
to Peters Bridge, where bream, tench, roach
and the odd carp can be found, Magdalen High
Road through to Neepes, then onto Morton's
Bridge and Crooked Chimney, this is where the
bigger nets have continued to come from
throughout the summer months. The Aqueduct
onto Pingles Bridge is where a mixed variety of
fish will normally be found. Good tench can be
found in the early morning, or evening sessions.
Bream, skimmers, roach, rudd and perch can be
found on these familiar stretches.
RELIEF CHANNEL
The Relief Channel has came back to life dur-
ing the last year with very good catches record-
ed from the King's Lynn end (Saddlebow).
Beware, as this area is used by water skiers in
the summer. Early and late sessions prove to be
more rewarding, depths range from 6-14 feet.
Targeted species include bream, hybrids, roach,
rudd, tench, perch and predator targets pike
and zander. Fish can be found at most areas of
the channel, but there is limited access at Mill
Road, St German's. Please note that on the
west bank downstream of Magdalen Bridge,
fishing is prohibited. This section is not leased
by KLAA. Plenty of car parking space and easy
access, at Magdalen Bridge and Stow Bridge
where another car park is available, then
through to Downham Market and onto Denver.
CUT OFF CHANNEL
The Cut off Channel, Denver Sluice to Wretton
Fen Drove, is another popular venue of old, but
has seen little action during the last couple of
years as the fish have moved away from the
most popular winter match stretch of old. Hilgay
Bridge through to Fordham was the main winter
venue anglers would descend in the winter
months packed on both banks searching for the
winning fish. Depths to 13 ft can be found, and
species targeted were tench, bream, roach, and
rudd, also pike and zander. The River Wissey is
another river which continues to provide plenty
of sport throughout the year. Access can be
obtained in the village of Hilgay and parking is
provided on the green opposite the old Fairfield
garage. To fish the other side of the A10 bridge,
parking is permitted in the lay byes on the A10.
This is a flowing water with depths to 5ft a great
favourite with predator anglers for lure fishing.
Species include skimmers, bream, chub, tench,
perch, roach, and dace. Also quality pike.
LITTLE OUSE
Little Ouse ( Little Ouse Village) is a small
flowing river which boasts some of the best win-
ter fishing in the Fens. An excellent autumn/win-
ter venue which protects the fish as they come
upstream from the Great Ouse, Big bream and
tench present in the summer months as the veg-
etation and lilies provide cover. Species targeted
bream, skimmers, chublet, dace, bleak, roach,
rudd, perch and pike.
Why not come and have a day's angling on
some of the best rivers and drains in the coun-
try?
