Beaches - One of the great beauties ofTorbay is its unspoilt coastline offering some breathtaking
views.Along a 22 mile stretch, 20 safe beaches and secluded coves comprise the aptly named English
Riviera. So whether you're after a place to lay out your towel, build sandcastles, have a gentle paddle,
explore a rock pool or just a quiet place to sit, you're sure to find a beach to suit.
We strive hard to provide beaches that are pleasant, meet the highest international agreed standards
and provide a high level of facilities. Our efforts have been recognised by one of the highest number
of beach awards within the UK.
English riviera Global Geopark -The world's first urban Geopark.The English Riviera is just one of
54 places around the world recognised by UNESCO for the international importance of its geological
and cultural heritage. Follow the new English Riviera GeoparkTrail and discover 400 million years
of history from when the whole area would have been under warm tropical seas, whenTorbay was
in fact south of the equator! Look closely at the red sandstones around Roundham Head and you
can see evidence of ancient sand dunes, whilst the jumble of rocks and stones at the eastern end of
Goodrington beach are evidence of flash floods. Here in the Geopark you can stand where Stone
Age cavemen shared an Ice Age landscape with prehistoric animals.
