Last Spring Graham Wetherell, who farms 680 acres at with sheep and beef
purchased a Kawasaki KVF 650. Graham had previously had another 3 Kawasaki's all
petrol 360s.
"They were a good powerful bike, but I wanted something a bit larger. The bike is
used all year around, but in the Spring especially when it takes a snacker to feed the
ewes. Another reason for the larger capacity is being able to pull a large trailer to
take the sheep out from lambing in Spring. The Kawasaki is a simple, reliable and
stable bike to use and will do around 4,000 miles in the year, 1,500 of those will be
at lambing time, says Graham.
Rickerby's have been very good with any back up service which I may require as I
need the bike to be functional at all times, concludes Graham.
Farming amidst the National Park gives rise to certain considerations, such as
trying not to mark the land. Ghylls and crags of the Lake District fells need an ATV
that is light enough to fulfill the latter requirements, but still have rugged stability
and reliability.
Mr Coulthard of Fellside replaced his previous Kawasaki 300 which was around
seven years old with a new Kawasaki 300.
"My bike does a lot of work, covering around 350 acres of fell land and another
260 acres besides. The first one I could not fault it never ailed anything, and was
reliable, good on fuel and cheap to run. It is ideally suited to fell work and is on
the move daily.
Wife Linda helps out at lambing time, along with daughter Christina and son
Stewart, looking after 600 ewes and 120 hoggs, along with 75 suckler cows
certainly needs an ATV with the Kawasaki's capabilities.
Mr Ken Tyson of Gate House Farm, Whitbeck, Millom, has 260 acres plus fell and
common land which he farms with sheep and beef. He recently purchased a Kawasaki
4010 mule with basic cab from Rickerby's. The capacity of the mule is good for
carrying feed and also pulling a trailer to carry sheep and lambs. I find the diesel
engine economical and the Mule is very stable on the higher terrain, said Mr Tyson.
Visiting the Rickerby Spring Show, farmer Mr Skelton became interested in the
Kawasaki 6010 Mule. At that time he had a Kawasaki ATV 300 which he had no
problems with, but he could see certain advantages with the Mule. So he ordered a
demonstration on the night, and after trying it out he liked it so much he kept it.
We have a family farm of 200 acres, with 600 breeding ewes and we feed 1000
store lambs plus over winter some sheep.
"My feelings were said Mr Skelton that we could instantly carry more feed in the
back and increase the capacity again by putting the trailer on. It has been good to
have the cab especially with the wet Summer and winter conditions, the dogs love it,
he adds,"The Mule will be across the land at least 3 times a day and we like the way
it doesn't mark the grass. It does the most miles and work of anything on the farm,
it has never ailed anything or been stuck. I find it travels every bit as well as the
ATV and the extra carrying capacity is a real bonus," he said.

Mr Robert Gates owner of Gates Tyres, has 600 acres of grass let, and looks after his own
horses.
"I was looking for an all terrain vehicle that would be multi purpose," said Robert.
We hold shooting parties on the estate during the season," Robert continued," The mule was
