Kirsty Nichol, 27, a drama and
English teacher from Carlisle and
Shane Surgey, 33, an art
teacher, live in Sheffield.
HOW THEY MET: In 1998 in
the Twisted Wheel in Carlisle.
Shane stood on Kirsty's foot
while they were dancing.
PROPOSAL: Shane got down
on one knee and proposed with a
diamond platinum ring in a tree-
lined avenue in Arkengarthdale
in the Yorkshire Dales in 2007.
VENUE: St Michael's Church,
Dalston. Kirsty and Shane
walked out of church to the
theme music from the original
1970s' Battlestar Gallactica film.
THEME: Country wedding
with a sci-fi twist.
BRIDE'S OUTFIT: A cream
dress with lace detailing and
chapel length train from Oxfam
in Bradford and a cathedral-
length veil with pearl detailing
from Scope in Barrow-in-
Furness.
GROOMSMEN: Shane's friend
Paul Jones was meant to be the
best man but he had a motorbike
accident two weeks before the
wedding and was unable to
attend. The bride's brother Eddie
Nichol was usher.
BRIDESMAIDS: The bride's
friend Jo Scales, 27, and the
bride's cousin and goddaughter
Abigail Dodwell, 13, were
bridesmaids. They wore
turquoise dresses from Debut at
Debenhams and shrugs from
Monsoon.
Cheryl Evans, the girlfriend of
the bride's brother, was usher.
FLOWERS: Pink peonies and
yellow and pink roses supplied
by Bloomsberry, Carlisle.
TRANSPORT: A minibus
from Wigton and District
Community Transport.
RECEPTION: The bride's
parents' house in Buckabank,
Dalston for drinks and cake and
then a buffet and disco at the
Victory Hall in Dalston, for 100
guests.
TABLE SETTINGS: Vases and
candles from Ikea with flowers
supplied by Bloomsberry and
arranged by the bride's aunts,
Clare Dodwell and Marleen
Harvey-Kelly.
Tables were named after
spaceships and the top table was
the Millennium Falcon.
CATERING: Buffet by John
Crouch, Wigton, using local
produce.
CAKE: A fruitcake made by
the bride's mother Susan Nichol
and decorated by family friend,
Nick Roberts.
FIRST DANCE: Beyond the
Sea, by Kevin Spacey.
ENTERTAINMENT: A disco
with music from iTunes selected
by the groom. Sound and lighting
equipment hired from Rhythm of
Life, Carlisle.
HONEYMOON: Andalucia,
Spain.

Amanda Clark, 36, a mobile
responder and Trevor Howard,
37, a plant operator, they live in

HOW THEY MET: In
Workington about three years
ago.
PROPOSAL: Over a meal in
December 2007.
VENUE: All Souls Church,
Maryport.
BRIDE'S OUTFIT: An ivory
satin strapless A-line gown
decorated in beading and silver
embroidery in a floral and leaf
design, ruche waist with full
train from Champagne Brides,
Workington and a matching
bolero jacket.
GROOMSMEN: The groom's
cousin Jonathon Dixon was best
man. The bride's son Jack Clark,
eight, was ring bearer. The
groom's nephews Callum Ritson,
Jackson Bailey, both nine, Aiden
Bailey, seven, were page boys.
They wore suits supplied by Well
Suited in Cockermouth.
BRIDESMAIDS: The bride's
daughter Megan Clark, 15, was
chief bridesmaid. The bride's
daughter Samantha Clark, 13,
groom's niece Courtanay Ritson,
12, were bridesmaids. They wore
red satin dresses with silver
sequins and beads on the bodice.
The groom's niece one-year-old
Molly Little and Libby Oglanby,
six, were flowergirls and wore
ivory dresses.
FLOWERS: Calla lilies and red
roses with beads from Laws of
Dearham.
TRANSPORT: Open-topped
cream Beauford from A Touch Of
Class, Workington and a white
limousine of from Mickey Bell,
Maryport.
RECEPTION: A buffet for 100
guests at the Broughton Craggs
Hotel, Cockermouth.
TABLE SETTINGS: Balloons
from Party HQ, Cockermouth
and table decorations by the
bride and her family.
FAVOURS: Cream handbags,
suits boxes and teddy bears for
the children.
CAKE: Love heart ivory three
tier cake with fondant flowers,
ribbon and red hearts made by
Karen Little, Maryport.
FIRST DANCE: Don't Want To
Miss A Thing by Aerosmith.
ENTERTAINMENT: Disco by
Neil Manning, of Harrington.
