Many parents give their children around 22.50 a
day to spend on school lunches. Yet less than one-
third of this amount actually ends up being spent
on a proper meal at school.
Parents are being short-changed. And more
importantly children are not getting the decent,
nutritious food their growing bodies need.
So what actually happens to this money?
Our research amongst students suggest that the
majority of it goes on sweets and fizzy drinks
bought on the way to school or on the way home.
Some might buy a bag of chips or a sausage roll if
they are available. A few will even use their lunch
money to buy cigarettes.
