The rivers Annan, Clyde, Earn, Nith, Tay, Teviot,
Tummel and Tweed hold large numbers of these
magnificent fish. As there is so much availability
the rivers are rarely busy even during the prime
months. Combine this with low permit costs
and you have the ideal excuse for an out of
season break and some amazing fishing.
Sea Angling
Wonderful shore and boat fishing is
available everywhere around Scotland's
magnificent coastline and islands.
Scotland has everything from giant skate and
shark fishing to serious shore fishing in stunning
scenery. For the boat angler, charters and
private boat hire is available. There is so much
good quality shore fishing along the coast that
it is genuinely difficult to think of places were
the fishing is actually poor. If you head to the
north west of Scotland you will even be able
to find marks that have not seen another angler
for years � if ever. If you are new to Scotland
then head for the local tackle shop and their
expertise and detailed knowledge will point
you in the right direction.
Coarse Fishing
Scotland offers a quality of pike fishing
that is unmatched by anywhere else in
Europe.
It is only relatively recently that people have
begun to realise just how good the coarse
fishing in Scotland can be. Although many
species are present it is the quality of the pike
fishing that has made people really sit up and
listen. These fish are nearly always especially
hard fighters and, in the right waters, can grow
to a size that will take your breath away. Twenty
pound plus pike don't raise many eyebrows.
They have to hit thirty pound plus before that
happens. Fishing is available all year round and,
incredibly, the permit price is nearly always
surprisingly low � if not free! However, the one
thing to remember is that live baiting is illegal in
Scotland. You do not need rod licences so just
buy a permit and get permission and start fishing
for that pike of a lifetime.
