WEDDING GUIDECEREMONYThe main
eventWith so many venues available you can opt for
something extremely lavish for the big day or a
low key gathering. Begin by deciding whether
you want a civil ceremony or a church wedding8230Civil ceremoniesIt used to be that, if you didn8217t want to or couldn8217t get married in a church,
then you went to your local register office for a ceremony imbued with all the
romance of applying for a mortgage. But now, with a vast choice of venues
from hotels to stately homes, that is no longer the case.
There are issues to bear in mind when planning a civil ceremony though.
When planning the event, bear in mind that there cannot be any religious
readings. And though music is allowed, this too can8217t have any spiritual
themes 8211 as the whole point is that this isn8217t a religious ceremony. Although
the ceremony can be filmed, only one camera is permitted, and still
photography is not allowed.
Most venues for civil ceremonies have qualified staff that can help in the
smooth running of the event, and make sure that everything you want, you
can have.Church weddingsMany couples still wish to enjoy the traditional church wedding, and this
can certainly be a moving and impressive experience. Visually, the church
wedding provides a beautiful backdrop for the ceremony and shows up
spectacularly on the photographs.
However, there are a number of regulations that ensure the more
picturesque venues are not overloaded with requests for ceremonies while the
newer and perhaps less desirable buildings remain deserted. For example, the
bride or groom always have to demonstrate an actual connection to a church
before they are allowed to get married there. Valid points include if it8217s their
local church or if they previously attended it.10-11:Layout 1 29/11/07 12:07 Page 1
