Lynn News, April 17, 2007THE second consecutive RAF
Marham ten mile road race and
fun run will take place on
Saturday, July 14th, at Marham
village.
Both the RAF Marham ten and
the one mile fun run are
organised by members of RAF
Marham, in aid of the charity Out
and About and as part of the
Marham Village Fun Day.
The one-mile fun run replaces
last year8217s 3.5 mile fun run to
include all ages, and if you have
always wanted to experience a
mass participation event while
raising money for charity, then
this one-mile fun run is for you.
However, if you are a touch
more ambitious and feel there is
a budding Brendan Foster or
Paula Radcliffe in you, then try
the ten-miler, which includes a
lap of the RAF Marham airfield.
This is a fast course that offers
potential for achieving your PB.THE handsome village green
at the heart ofShouldham
gives the village a very
traditional feel and makes a
most favourable first
impression with visitors.
Appropriately, it has a
lovely old pub, The King8217s
Arms, which has been a pub
since the 18th century.
It is a lovely, warm, friendly
building with log fires in the
winter, and there is a large
garden to eat and drink in
during the summer months.
Situated in Shouldham is
Shouldham Hall Nursing
Home, which has rooms for 48NOT MANY villages in West Norfolk can
boast a rail link on the main Lynn-to-
London line, and this is a big reason why
Watlington is a popular place for many
newcomers.
Being close to the A10 road, the village
is within close reach for both Lynn and
Downham, another reason why housing
developments have sprung up in the
village over the years.
Add the character ofthe original
village centre ofWatlington, and it is not
hard to see why it is popular with so
many people.THE MIGHTY RAF base nearby has
always had a big influence on life in the
village ofMarham, and the links between
the base and the village are as strong as
ever today.
While the middle school is in the
village, the first school is on the RAF
camp, and the ten-pin bowling alley next
to the camp is used by locals.
Marham may have had four pubs at one
time, but today there are none.
Fortunately, Marham, Bowls, Sports and
Social Club provides a vital facility in the
village.RUNCTON
HOLME, near to
Downham, is a
traditional rural
village 8212 smaller,
quieter and lower
in profile, but still
has an active
school and its own
close-knit
community.Out and About was founded in
1984 and supports disabled
children and young people aged
5-19, enabling them to access
leisure activities in West Norfolk
and Suffolk.
The Marham Village Fun Day
will include a number of
traditional children8217s rides, side-
shows for the young at heart,
children8217s quad bikes, food
stalls, beer tent, car boot sale,
demonstrations by the RAF
Marham bomb disposal team
(including specialist vehicles)
and a display by the RAF8217S

The Hall was
originally believed
to be a family
home. It has been a
nursing home for
more than 20 years,
and a newer wing
was added to the
main building in
1993.Terrific rail linkRural
