LINCOLNSHIRE TODAY87DINING OUTIn such a beautiful historic city, it
comes as no surprise that visitors seek
the spectacular sights of Lincoln8217s
heritage. The Lincoln Hotel not only
provides exceptional cuisine but the
highly sought after window seats of
the hotel restaurant take advantage of
the Cathedral8217s dominance over the
city.
Lincolnshire Today recently visited
The Lincoln Hotel for a delightful and
relaxing meal.
Having been welcomed by the
friendly staff, my companion and I
chose our meals from the extensive
menu which hosted a range of
delicious local produce recognised by
Tastes of Lincolnshire. While we
awaited our starter, we enjoyed a glass
of wine in the modern and extremely
stylish city chic setting of the
restaurant, a stark contrast to the
impressive sight of the cathedral that
we enjoyed from our seats.
Courtesy of the chef we were treated
to a delicious potato and white truffle
velout233, a very tasty introduction into
what we anticipated to be a top class
meal. Our starters came shortly after, I
chose the carrot and coriander soup of
the day while my companion opted
for a chicken and savoy cabbage pate
served with homemade chutney. The
soup was deliciously creamy and my
companion commented on how her
pate was wonderfully complemented
by the tangy chutney, as expected, the
presentation of both dishes was
exceptional.
While waiting for our main course
we soaked up the tranquil ambiance of
the restaurant. Soft lighting and
relaxing music bathed the mixed
crowd of older and young diners who
were clearly enjoying their own meals.
Next door, a private function room
was hosting one of the many parties
that the restaurant caters for. The
Lincoln Hotel also plays host to
numerous conferences and business
events, and is licensed for civil
ceremonies for up to 200 guests.
As we were served our main meals
the presentation was certainly a
notable and pleasant touch. I chose
the chicken breast with a crispy potato
cake, spinach and wild mushroom
velout233 and served with honey glazed
carrots, a beautifully tender meat dish
perfectly complemented by the sauce.
My companion opted for the penne
pasta with cherry tomato sauce,
spinach and goats cheese, which she
described as an interesting mixture of
textures and rich ingredients that
brought out each flavour very nicely.
Having been tempted by the
sumptuous dessert menu we were
treated again, by compliments of the
chef, to a small vanilla mille feuille 8211 a
lovely touch after the main meal. I
decided on the indulgent chocolate
brownie with honeycomb ice cream
which was everything that could be
expected, rich, pleasurable and the
perfect ending to a truly exquisite
meal.
The Lincoln Hotel certainly exceeds
all expectations, with service second to
none and exceptionally fine dining
this restaurant is the perfect location
for an enjoyable evening of culture
and cuisine.
The Lincoln Hotel is located on
Eastgate, just opposite the
Cathedral.
