In the show,I Own Britain8217s Best
Home,the public voted Jason and
Demetra Lindsay8217s house in the
grounds of Hedingham Castle
seventh out of 24 of the best
properties in the UK.
The couple inherited Hedingham
Castle from The Hon Thomas
Lindsay,but they are the first
family to live in the home since
1903.
The estate has been in the family
for 1,000 years and the house
dates back to 1720.
They are reliant on revenue from
tourism and weddings to finance
the renovation work,which is
ongoing.
Mrs Lindsay,an architect,has
furnished many rooms with silk
sourced from Warners Mill,
Braintree.
In what could have been a dance
hall or dining room, she got busy
with a 163300 sewing machine to
prepare green silk for the walls.
It is called the Ashhurst Room,
after the Ashhursts who built the
house.
The Lindsays have turned a
former corridor into a sitting
room by renovating antique
furniture.
In a second,much grander sitting
room,stands a piano,a giant
rocking horse,and a twisting oak
staircase leads up to the
bedrooms.
A four-poster bed in one room
once belonged to the Tudor king
Edward VI.
