the bargain seekers, the highly
recommended Las Vegas Premium Outlets
offers designer discounts at between 20
and 70% off those in the Hotel shops.
Don8217t forget to leave enough energy for
when it gets dark, though, as this is Vegas
at its best. Even the most passionate of
anti-global warming campaigners would
fail not to be impressed by the millions of
neon lights embracing the Strip, and if
you weren8217t fortunate enough to fly into
Vegas at night, be sure to take a night time
helicopter trip down the Strip.
Evenings also provide a time to put on
your newly purchased designer gear and
hit the shows. The West End and
Broadway may well have the heritage but
Vegas, as you8217d expect, does it in
abundance. It may also be a good time to
visit Quebec because all the French
Canadians have been press ganged into
appearing in one of the five (that we
counted) Cirque de Soleil shows. We
fulfilled one of my wife8217s dreams to see
Bette Midler but you could choose from,
amongst others, Phantom, Spamalot,
Mamma Mia, The Producers, Elton John
and dozens of comedians, magicians,
dinner shows or topless revues!
Catch an early evening show then the
night is free for an after show dinner and
or time to hit the lounges and nightclubs
for a martini and bop on the dance floor.Although these venues can be expensive
they8217re worth the experience if for
nothing other than enjoying yourselves
without worrying about an English drunk
putting you in hospital.
Vegas is nicknamed 8216Sin City8217 though
and for good reason, so don8217t go alone, or
leave your drinks unattended, as Ecstasy is
freely taken! Overall you can, it seems,
indulge in whatever takes your fancy. Take
the time I was approached by a man with
a gorgeous blonde on his arm who told
me she could be in my room in twenty
minutes! My mind raced - with spring
break traffic so heavy a taxi ride from this
end of the strip could take 45 minutes.
Just as I concluded it would be
worthwhile booking her just for the fast
track back to the Luxor, my wife insisted
we take the $2 bus!
Gambling was, in the end, limited to
pre-sleep feeding of slot machines (as busy
crowds seem to force up the minimum
stake bets at tables) and our last night
coincided with a power cut which
interestingly enough put the lifts out of
order but not the slot machines! Possibly
under a misconception that pouring
money into the slots would feed a meter
capable of restoring power we, like so
many others gambled on. Did we win? We
didn8217t care. By Paul Drummond56 LINCOLNSHIRE TODAYTRAVELCOURTESY LAS VEGAS CONVENTION AND VISITORS AUTHORITY054-055-056:Layout 1 16/5/08 11:58 Page 3
