Herts & Essex Newspapers Ltd, The Media Centre,
40 Ware Road, Hertford SG13 7HU.The judges8217 decision is final and no correspondence will be entered
into. Usual Herts & Essex Newspapers rules apply.EASTER is coming8211 and how would you like to lead
out the Blues as mascot for their crucial Blue Square
South home match against Sutton United on Easter
Monday?
As if that8217s not enough, we8217ve also teamed up with
Bishop8217s Stortford FC8217s shirt sponsor, Spellbrook-
based Hilton Suzuki, to offer the parents of our young
winner the hire of a fantastic brand new Suzuki Splash
for a whole weekend.
As mascot you will win a full Blues kit, which you can
wear on the day when you lead out the team and take
part in the pre-match warm-up. But you must be aged
13 or under.
You and your family will also have seats in the stand to
watch the match on Monday March 24 (kick-off 3pm).
The winner will also receive an autographed copy of
the programme.
It8217s a great time to follow the Blues.
The side beat FACup giantkillers Havant &
Waterlooville 2-1 on Saturday as they continue their
quest for a play-off spot to try to win promotion to the
Blue Square Premier 8211 just one division below the
Football League.
Tickets are still available for the must-win clash against
Sutton. Call (01279) 306456 to book your seat.THE Robins were unable to
take advantage ofthe extra
man as they lost at home to
10-man Eton Manor.
The score was 0-0 when
Manor8217s Manley Brown was
sent offafter 50 minutes of
Saturday8217s clash by referee
Lee Dorling for using foul and
abusive language.
Sawbridgeworth Town then
drifted out ofcontention and
fell behind on 65 minutes.
A free-kick from ex-Robins
player Jordan Childs found
Anton Stephenson whose shot
was blocked by home keeper
Dan Bibby before substitute
Ricky Hassan turned in the
rebound.
Bibby then pulled offtwo
good saves from Stephenson
and Liam Allen before fourth-
placed Manor sealed the
points with an 81st-minute
penalty from Stephenson.
This was after the same
Manor player was fouled by
Bibby who received a yellow
card as team-mate Tom Day
was covering on the line.
A goalless first halfhad seen
Ashley Conlan fire just wide
ofa post before Ben Doyle
was denied by an excellent tip
round from Manor keeper
Andy Hall.
At the other end, Chris
Barratt was foiled by a superb
Matt Hayter tackle.
Richard Branchflower, the
Robins boss, said: 8220It was very
evenly matched when they
had 11. We were playing much
better than we did against
Mauritius Sports [when
Sawbo lost 2-1].
8220We got complacent when
they went down to 10 and we
thought we were going to win.
We let our work rate drop and
it did not happen for us.8221
Sawbo should have striker
Kevin Moore (hamstring) back
for Saturday8217s league match at
Burnham Ramblers.
SAWBRIDGEWORTH TN: Bibby, Crook, Day,
Longley, Hayter, Sontag, Ellice (Smith 78),
Conlan, Doyle, Buckingham, Hudson (Bulled 49).Sawbridgeworth Tn 0, Eton Manor 2(Essex Senior Football League)IT might have been reverse
psychology last week when
Blues boss Martin Hayes
said his side had a mountain
to climb to clinch a play-off
spot, but it certainly did the
trick as Bishop8217s Stortford
conquered FA Cup
giantkillers Havant &
Waterlooville.Stortford also fought back
from going a goal down early
on in Hampshire to record
their first win in five games.
Saturday8217s victory at
Westleigh Park also meant
Stortford completed the dou-
ble over a team that twice took
the lead at Liverpool in the FA
Cup fourth round this season.
With hamstring injury vic-
tims Steffan Gaisie and
Danny Harris out and Roy
Essandoh suspended, Hayes
was forced to put himselfon
the substitutes8217 bench.
This was after his fifth sub,
utility player Sam Taylor,
pulled out just before kick-off
with a groin injury.
Utility player Tom
Champion (poisoned toe) and
central defender Michael
Stanbrook (suspended) were
unavailable.
Other changes saw Joe
Welch replace Andrew Young
in goal and Loui Fazakerley
go from the right wing to part-
ner Greg Pearson up front.
Blues named Sam Higgins
on the bench, a forward on
loan from Southend United.
Stortford went behind on
two minutes when a hopeful
long ball from Shaun
Wilkinson was latched onto
by Rocky Baptiste who went
on to fire past the advancing
Welch from 25 yards.
Soon after, home keeper
Kevin Scriven dived impres-
sively to tip round a Yao shot
before saving well from
Fazakerley.
Meanwhile, Welch twice
saved well from Charlie Henry.
Blues continued to press
though and both Matt Jones
and Jason Mason went close.
Stortford equalised on 47
minutes. Ahmed Deen8217s cor-
ner was turned back into the
six-yard box by Fazakerley
and Pearson slotted home.
Shortly after, Pearson nod-
ded against the home bar.
Stortford scored the winner
on the hour mark. A swift
attack saw Danny Lunan
square to Yao who fired his
first Blues goal past Scriven.
Hayes said: 8220He took it well.
He caused problems with his
pace and is similar to Loui
Fazakerley.8221
Havant thought they had
equalised on 80 minutes.
Baptiste8217s shot was turned in
by Watkins at the far post but
the linesman put his flag up.
Hayes said: 8220It was nice that
the linesman did not bottle it.
We defended well, we got the
ball down and passed it. We
got back to playing well and
we deserved the three points.8221
8220It8217s baffling. We8217ve not lost
to either Havant, Eastbourne
or Hampton & Richmond [in
six games], yet have not done
so well against sides like
Welling or Braintree.8221
