commanding presence and towers over the city 8211
Lincoln Cathedral. No matter how familiar you may
be with this wonderful piece of architecture, it never
ceases to take your breath away.
The prominent landmark is a striking example of
intricate stonework. The east end of the Cathedral
bristles with gargoyles, and the best place to view them
is from the East Green. Excellent full length sculptures
can be seen both within and surrounding the
Judgement Porch 8211 the eastern section of the south
side of the building 8211 and within the Gallery of Kings,
which is above the main entrance of the west front.
Lincoln Castle, another part of the historic centre,
which dates back to Norman times also has spectacular
views of the two faces of Lincoln 8211 the area in the
North that relishes its past and also the modern up
and coming city centre that invites visitors to make
use of the regeneration that has taken place.
It is also the venue for a number of events that range
from rock concerts to open air theatre. Perhaps it8217s
most apt, though, when hosting activities that reflect
the age of the building such as the historical re-
enactments and jousting tournaments like the one
taking place there in August.
Little wonder then that Lincoln is such a hot
destination and why it justifiably draws so much
