Sawbridgeworth Tn v
Queens Park Stansted.Duo clinch golds at Herts county champsRoding re-elect Hussain Club8217s Devon cream star
in famous Grizzly race FOOTBALL mad youngsters
from Rickling Green CoE
School have been given a
lift with a new kit.
The Cricketers Arms in
Rickling Green presented
the new shirts before their
game against Manuden on
Thursday.
The game finished 2-2 with
George Belton and Lewis
Knights scoring for
Rickling Green.
Sarah Mills, who runs the
team, said: 8220The school and
the public house have a
great relationship.
8220The kit is lovely and the
children said it was light to
wear.8221Kit boost for schoolMEL Hussain was
re-elected as the
captain ofHigh
Roding8217s first team
at the cricket
club8217s annual
meeting.
Hussain is look-
ing forward to the
season ahead with
a great deal ofcon-
fidence, with plen-
ty oftalented
youngsters coming
through the ranks.
Baz Sewell was
re-elected as sec-
ond team captain.
The colts8217 regis-
tration evening
takes place at the
clubhouse at
6.30pm on Thurs-
day March 20.
Roding dedicate
two evenings a
week to its colts
training, taken by
two ECB coaches. qSTANSTED
Cricket Club will
be holding its
annual meeting at
49 St John8217s Road,
Stansted on
Tuesday evening.TWO gold medals were won by
Bishop8217s Stortford athletes at the
Hertfordshire Indoor Athletics County
Championships on Sunday.
Adam Daish would have preferred a
sub seven second time in the senior
men8217s 60m race, but he still gained a
personal best (PB) time of7.08s at the
event, held at the Lee Valley Athletics
Valley Centre in Picketts Lock, North
London.
Daish was 0.05 seconds ahead ofsec-
ond-placed Mark Collins (Luton), who
clocked 7.13.
This was a great time for Daish,
bearing in mind his winter training
was disrupted when he was struck
down with glandular fever.
In the men8217s U-20 event, Ian Tobin
came first in the long jump with a leap
of6.27m.
He also came second in the 200m
(23.36s), just ahead ofHerts Phoenix
ACteam-mate Ryan Gow, also from
Bishop8217s Stortford, who came third in
23.37s.
Gow was also third in the U-20 60m
race in 7.4s.qEDWARD Shepherd, from
Sawbridgeworth, was the second
Hertfordshire finisher in the junior
boys 3,750m race at the annual English
Schools Cross Country Champion-
ships in Liverpool on Saturday. His
time was 13 mins 58 secs, which placed
him 76th overall.NEW KIT: The Rickling Green team with teachers and
sponsors (Photo: WKW3YYHZ-02)AT least 60 people relished
a racketball extravaganza
involving top British talent
at Bishop8217s Stortford
Squash Club.Friday8217s exhibition saw
Stortford member and num-
ber one Great Britain racket-
ball player Darryl Selby
show his class.
The 25-year-old defeated
over-35 British champion
Jim Lord 15-10 before over-
coming top five Great
Britain player Paul Allen 17-
15 in one-game matches.
The audience were then
treated to a doubles match
which saw Selby team up
with his brother Elliot, but
the sibling combination lost
to Lord and Allen.
In this match the players
in each pair had to take
alternate shots which made
for some particularly amus-
ing moments.
After these games, mem-
bers ofthe Silver Leys
squash club had a go at the
sport, with the four top seeds
taking part in matches on
different courts.
Racketball is different
from squash in that the ball
is around three times as big
and bounces much higher.
This enables rallies to last
longer. A good drop shot in
squash can end a rally easily,
but in racketball it is not so
easy to play the killer shot.
It is an ideal game for
those who find squash too
hard for ageing ankles and
knees, where the ball dies
more easily on the front, side
or back wall from drop shots.
The racket in racketball
has a much shorter handle
but a bigger head than its
squash equivalent.
Stortford squash club
manager Karen Selby said:
8220Every one really enjoyed it
and around 10 people have
expressed interest in start-
ing a racketball league at the
club.8221
The event was sponsored
by Southend-based footwear
firm Hi-Tec.By

as he claimed two medals
and five personal bests
(PBs) at the Hatfield UK

Competing in the Open

tain came second in the
100m Individual Medley

1 min 1.69 secs) and third in
the 100m backstroke
(1:00.17).
Molloy, who was swim-
ming in races which includ-
ed European Junior 100m

Brown, set three other PBs.
His other times were 1:09.71
(100m breaststroke, 4th);
27.83s (50m butterfly, 5th)
and 28.56s (50m backstroke,
6th).

ty in the 100m IM to come

dTHIRTEEN Bishop8217s Stortford
Running Club members
travelled to Seaton in Devon
over the weekend to take part
in the famous 8216Grizzly8217 multi-
terrain race.
The challenging event, held
over approximately 20 miles,
took the runners along cliff
paths, beaches, through bogs
and rivers, woods and to climb
steps up cliff faces.
Weather conditions contributed
to the challenge, with the
runners having to adapt for
sunshine, wind, rain and hail.

for the club, achieving 83rd out
of 1,400 runners in 2:53 (PB).

for the club in 2:05. She was

(2:09), Nicky Weatherburn
(2:09), Pauline Stroud (2:30)

Liam Sheils8217 slow time of 2:44

that he was wearing a grizzly
bear costume for his stag do!
