MUSIC/THEATRE
Observer March 13, 2008 25A DARK shadow will be
stalking the stage at the Rhodes Arts
Complex when East Herts Youth Theatre
presents Bram Stoker8217s classic Dracula
on Tuesday.
The terrifying and gruesome Gothic tale has been retold
many times and is set in 19th-century Victorian England.
In an exciting and skilful adaptation, the audience follows the
adventures of English lawyer Jonathan Harker as he delves deeper
into a murky and perilous world 8211 the
world of the undead.
Shrouded in mystery, Dracula can walk through locked doors and
change his shape, sometimes appearing as a man and at others as a
huge wolf-like beast or a bat. He never grows ill, never tires, and if you
are unlucky enough to cross his path he will take your life and soul.
The powerful play is brought to life by about 10 members of the youth
drama group, who are aged 14 to 18. As well as the action on stage,
they are responsible for the props, scenery and special effects.
So, if you think you8217re brave enough, don8217t miss this unique
adaptation. The show is suitable for children aged 10 and
over. Tickets are 1639 (concessions 1637) from the Rhodes
box office on (01279) 651746. The performance
starts at 7.30pm.AN Easter feast offolk
