The dentist
who8217s racking
up air Smiles!AVISIT to the
dentist is not
usually
something to
smile about. But that8217s
not the case with one
practice in Bishop8217s
Stortford, which is
getting its teeth into the
163250,000 Herts Air
Ambulance Appeal.Dr Bhavin Bhatt is
offering a laser tooth
whitening package at half
price, which will put a
gloss to the tune of163200
per person on the fund to
provide the county with
an emergency helicopter.
Diane Dixon, a manager
with the Royal Bank of
Scotland, was the first to
take advantage at his
Smile and Well Being
Clinic in South Street.
The in-surgery and home
whitening package is
being offered at 163400, half
ofwhich goes to the air
ambulance appeal.
Dr Bhatt said: 8220My aim is
to get 100 patients then we
can raise 16320,000.8221
He is a firm believer in
the value ofair
ambulances. 8220I qualified
at the Royal London
Hospital, which was one
ofthe first hospitals to
have an air ambulance. As
part ofmy training I was
in the emergency
department and I saw first
hand how important it is.
8220Also, the parents ofa
friend ofmine were
travelling on the M1 from
Luton Airport a couple of
months ago and were
involved in an horrific car
crash. Both his parents
are still unconscious, but
they would have been
dead ifnot for an air
ambulance. It has
devastated his world but
the blessing is the air
ambulance.
8220I was shocked and
appalled when I learnt
that a very prosperous
county like Hertfordshire
doesn8217t have an air
ambulance.8221
Dr Bhatt, who qualified in
1999, has been running his
practice in Stortford for
just over a year.G

CHEMISTSONEmight be forgiven for
being quite depressed of
late. Economists are talking up a
recession, environmentalists are
predicting disaster and there
continues to be grim news from
Afghanistan and Iraq.
If you add to that, for us ordinary
folk, huge hikes in utility bills then
one wonders what in the world
there is to look forward to.
The answer is, of course, Easter!
No doubt you are thinking that a
few bunnies, some chocolate
eggs and two extra days off work
will do little to improve your lot,
but listen: the true message of
Easter is that when all was dark
8212 on the Friday, when all was
death 8212 on the cross and the
followers of Jesus must have
been steeped in despair, a
fantastic resurrection was coming
on the Sunday. From dark came
light and from death came life.
We must not despair but instead
embrace the Easter message of
hope and joy for everyone that is
promised to us in Jesus Christ
and available at a church near
you this Easter and every day.B
