PREPARATIONSfor what
promises to be one ofthe
biggest fund-raising
events in the area this
year got offto a colourful start
with the official launch ofthe St
Clare Hospice Midnight Walk.Ifeverything goes to plan, three
months from now thousands of
women will set offon a 10km walk
along Harlow8217s network ofcycle
paths and footpaths.
The aim is to raise thousands of
pounds for the hospice, which
provides round-the-clock care for
hundreds ofpeople with life-
limiting illnesses.
It promises to be a night to
remember . . . and we want as many
ofour thousands ofreaders as
possible to sign up and take part.
The
Observer
is one ofthe official
supporters ofthe event, along with
our sister paper, the
Harlow Star,
and radio station ten-17fm.
The Water Gardens in Harlow town
centre were awash with pink last
Friday when scores ofsupporters
pulled on special Midnight Walk T-
shirts and donned bunny ears for
the official launch. Within just a few
minutes, people were signing up
while many more asked for details.
Registration could not be simpler.
All you have to do is fill in the form
on this page and send it offto
receive a registration pack or log on
to our website at
www.hertsandessexobserver.co.uk
and follow the link to the Midnight
Walk website, where you can
register online.
The cost ofregistration is 16315 per
walker, but ofcourse you can raise
much more for the hospice by
getting sponsored.
You can walk in memory ofa loved
one you have lost, walk for someone
you know who has benefited from
the work ofSt Clare or just walk for
yourself.
The walk will be held on Saturday
June 21. To take part you must be
over 16. Places are limited and will
be allocated in the order entries are
processed.
Marshals will be stationed along the
route 8211 which starts and finishes at
the Water Gardens 8211 to guide and
assist participants when necessary.
The Midnight Walk is accessible to
wheelchair users.
Everyone who takes part will
receive a special pink T-shirt and
goody bag when they arrive on the
night.
The walk will be the biggest single
fund-raising event in the history of
the hospice. The annual running
cost ofthe service is 1631.8m and it
receives 30 per cent ofits funding
from the West Essex Primary Care
Trust.

there are many more people who
should have access to our services
and care that we can8217t reach
because oflimited resources.8221
The hospice is committed to
increasing the services it provides
in the community with the
introduction ofan independent
living team which will visit patients
at home to provide complementary
therapies, physio and occupational
therapy.

through the walk will pay towards
this service and also help us make
further improvements to reach even
more in the community ofWest
Essex and East Herts,8221 said Mr
Cowie.
